City of Melbourne, Australia Australia Post Full time

Description & Requirements

Australia Post is delivering for all Australians. From the vehicles we drive to the small businesses that make our communities thrive, we’re delivering for the environment, for our communities, for our customers and for our people. We’re moving forward—and we want you to come along for the ride.

About the opportunity

You will report to the Senior Manager – Network Modelling & Optimisation, in this role you will develop, maintain, and enhance cost models used for network planning, budgeting, and financial forecasting. You’ll work closely with network planning, engineering, and finance teams to provide insights that drive strategic decision-making and optimise network investment.

This is a hands-on, analytical role for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, interrogating data, and building models that shape the future of our logistics network. You’ll be comfortable working with messy, conflicting data, and have the initiative to go out and get the information you need from across the business.

What you’ll deliver with us

- Build and maintain network cost models using Excel and other data tools.
- Gather, clean, and analyse quantitative cost data (e.g., transport costs, machine outputs, resource allocation) to support operational and financial decision-making.
- Conduct scenario analyses to evaluate the financial implications of network strategies and investment options.
- Prepare and present detailed reports on network costs and financial performance to senior management and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders, including network development, finance, digital/data teams, and external partners as required.
- Document and communicate logical supply chain scenarios for review and implementation.
- Lead and embed a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and customer focus across the function.

About you

You’re a go-getter who brings energy, adaptability, and a keen analytical mind to every challenge. You’re financially literate, comfortable with economic drivers, and able to build and interrogate models that deliver actionable insights—even when the data isn’t perfect.

You will also have:

- Experience in finance, operations research, or modelling roles (ideally 3+ years), covering cost estimating, cost-to-serve, activity-based costing, and cost reconciliations.
- Ability to build baseline and future cost models, reconcile data, and validate assumptions.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, SQL, Python, R, PowerBI).
- Aptitude for learning and applying new tools and techniques.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work across teams and influence outcomes.
- A passion for learning, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
- Desirable: Tertiary qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Mathematics, Financial Modelling, or a related field.

How we’ll deliver for you
