About the role:
The Commercial Analyst plays a pivotal role in supporting the financial and contractual success of the Defence Theatre Logistics (DTL) contract. With a strong emphasis on budgeting, forecasting, and financial systems, this role requires advanced accounting and analytical capabilities to drive commercial outcomes.
Key responsibilities include ensuring contract compliance and performance, monitoring obligations and deliverables, and providing data-driven insights into operational efficiency. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to track key metrics such as delays, volumes, and location-specific performance, contributing to continuous improvement and strategic decision-making.
A day in the life of a Commercial Analyst
- Monitor and analyse financial performance across DTL, including revenue, margins, costs, and profitability, while maintaining financial models and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Collaborate with commercial and operations teams to evaluate pricing strategies, support contract variations and renewals, and monitor market trends and competitor pricing.
- Prepare and deliver regular financial and commercial performance reports, offering insights into trends, risks, and opportunities, and support internal and client presentations.
- Maintain contractual requirements in line with the contract master schedule to ensure compliance and alignment with reporting frameworks.
- Assist the commercial team with contract variations and renewals, ensuring pricing structures and financial terms meet DTL contract standards.
- Provide strategic financial and commercial support to improve operational efficiency and ensure alignment with Defence procurement guidelines.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
Qualifications:
- Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Commerce, Economics, or a related field
- Familiarity with Defence contracting frameworks, including ASDEFCON and Commonwealth procurement policies (desirable)
Skills and experience:
- 5+ years’ experience in a commercial or financial analyst role, ideally within Defence, logistics, or large-scale government contracts, and must be an Australian Citizen eligible for a Defence Security Clearance.
- Strong financial modelling and analysis skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions, alongside experience in pricing analysis, cost modelling, and forecasting.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with working knowledge of ERP systems such as SAP and financial reporting tools.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present financial insights to senior stakeholders.
- Ability to build effective relationships across all levels and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to achieve commercial goals.
- High attention to detail in financial modelling and reporting, strong commercial acumen, and familiarity with Defence contracting frameworks such as ASDEFCON and Commonwealth procurement policies.
