The School

North Lake Senior Campus offers an alternative pathway for Year 11 and Year 12 education catering to students beyond the compulsory age of 18 in Western Australia. Our campus privileges wellbeing and diversity. It embraces multiculturalism and inclusion and fosters an inclusive, safe and vibrant learning space where young people can experience an adult ethos, and work alongside staff to fulfill their post-school endeavours.

We are looking for a suitably qualified Design and Technology teacher with a capacity to plan, deliver and monitor senior school WACE Design and Technology courses with a focus on photography, metalwork and woodwork. The successful applicant should have the necessary and appropriate qualifications and experience and will ideally have an appreciation and understanding of fostering student engagement within the context of an adult teaching and learning environment. Our student body encompasses a wide range of ages, backgrounds and experiences, including individuals who have faced trauma, students for whom English is a second or an additional language, high academic level repeat learners, mature-aged students and students with interrupted schooling experiences. Our commitment is to meet the diverse wellbeing and learning needs of all our students.

Success in this position hinges on employing a strategic, goal-oriented teaching methodology that fosters active learning and critical thinking among students, while providing support and encouragement in a safe learning environment. Effective collaboration within and across teams is important. Moreover, the nature of the campus necessitates the application of strong interpersonal and emotional intelligence across the entire school community. This entails close collaboration with parents and community stakeholders to ensure the best possible educational outcomes for students.

As part of our standard practice, the successful applicant will engage in ongoing reflection of their teaching methods and course planning to build our culture of continued improvement. They should strive to cultivate an environment for students that is conducive to active learning, engagement and collaboration. The successful applicant should deliver relevant, evidence-based educational experiences that are customised to meet the diverse requirements of all students.

The successful applicant would also exhibit proficiency in employing a variety of instructional approaches, including trauma-informed practices, effective classroom management strategies, and restorative practices. As a campus, we prioritise supporting our staff to develop and implement these approaches through our processes of professional growth and coaching.
