About the Role: Social Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) Practitioner – Youth

The SEWB Practitioner is responsible for the provision of high quality culturally safe, trauma informed counselling, SEWB therapeutic supports and comprehensive mental health services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth in the Darwin region. This role will provide client-centred support for youth who present with a broad range of issues relating to intergenerational trauma, self-esteem, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, anger management, grief and loss, sleep disturbance, domestic violence, sexual problems, relationship issues, and substance misuse. SEWB Practitioners are an integral part of the DDHS Social Emotional Wellbeing team, which is a multidisciplinary team that works together to provide holistic care for youth and their families.

What You Need to Succeed

Tertiary Qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, or other related allied health disciplines.

- Current membership/registration with APHRA, Australian Association of Social Workers or Australian Counselling Association.
- Minimum of two years’ experience working in a related field.
- Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and history; and an understanding of social, health and wellbeing issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
- Demonstrate knowledge of current issues, standards, and trends in the delivery of mental health and social and emotional wellbeing services to Aboriginal people.
- Demonstrated extensive experience in the Mental Health, Social and emotional wellbeing assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation methods appropriate to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with clients, carers, and other professionals from diverse cultures.
- Proven teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to constructively negotiate outcomes with a diverse range of people and service providers.
- High personal resilience and flexibility to deal with challenging situations.
- Demonstrated computer skills, especially in using client information systems or similar.
