About the role

Based in our Melbourne or Sydney office, the Senior Librarian is responsible for delivering high level legal and business research, curating authoritative resources and working in a collaborative way to support our lawyers. The Senior Librarian will conduct high quality legal research, evaluate emerging research tools and ensure the library collections, both digital and print, remain current, cost effective and aligned to practice group priorities. The Senior Librarian will work closely with various departments, including IT, General Counsel and Knowledge.

Additional responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

- Provide expert, timely legal and commercial research utilising electronic and manual research tools
- Maintain and develop the firm library collections,including acquisition, licensing and cataloguing to maximise value for money
- Design and deliver targeted training for lawyers and corporate services staff on legal research techniques and database use
- Develop current awareness services and bespoke alerts covering legislative change, case-law developments, industry news, and competitor intelligence
- Liaise with external networks such as law libraries, professional bodies and vendors to benchmark services and represent the firm in the broader legal information community
- Undertake or manage special projects such as collection audits, digitisation programmes or market analysis reports

The role operates within the Library & Research Services function of the Operational Excellence team.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have the followingskills and experience:

- Postgraduate qualification in Library and Information Science (or equivalent) recognised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).
- Minimum 5 years’ library and legal research experience within a law firm or comparable legal environment.
- Demonstrated mastery of Australian and international legal research sources and sophisticated search methodologies.
- Advanced knowledge of library systems and collaborative technologies; familiarity with AI-assisted research tools desirable.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills including the ability to communicate complex research findings concisely to partners and lawyers
- Experience designing and facilitating training programmes for legal professionals and support staff.
- Excellent analytical skills with the capacity to meet multiple, time-sensitive deadlines in a professional manner
- Eligibility for ALIA Associate Membership; ongoing commitment to professional development, legal technology literacy and industry networking.

Technical skills aside, you will actively take the next step to go above and beyond in all aspects of this role. You’ll be passionate about the delivery of exceptional client service, and will have excellent communication skills.
