Overview
A leading commercial law firm in Sydney CBD is seeking a Bookkeeper to join their supportive and knowledgeable Accounts team. Salary: AUD 85,000 - AUD 90,000 per annum + super. Hybrid work arrangement. Located in Sydney CBD.
What you’ll do
- Assist with accounts payable and receivable processes by accurately recording transactions and ensuring timely payments and collections.
- Reconcile corporate credit card expenses by reviewing statements, matching receipts, and resolving discrepancies in collaboration with team members.
- Process fortnightly payroll cycles, superannuation contributions, and employee expense claims while maintaining strict confidentiality and accuracy.
- Maintain up-to-date leave records and adjustments for all staff members using the firm’s established systems and procedures.
- Support trust accounting activities by performing data entry and reconciliation tasks in accordance with the requirements set by the NSW Law Society.
- Generate detailed financial reports using the firm’s practice management software to provide insights into business performance for senior stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with statutory law, finance regulations, and tax obligations by following established protocols and assisting with audits as required.
- Collaborate closely with the Financial Controller and other senior members of the Accounts Team to deliver high-quality financial support across the organisation.
- Participate in regular team meetings to share knowledge, discuss process improvements, and contribute ideas for enhancing efficiency within the department.
What you bring
- Currently hold or are enrolled in an accredited course such as Certificate III in Accounts Administration or Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping (mandatory).
- Possess intermediate to advanced computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; willingness to learn new software applications specific to legal practice management (mandatory).
- Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail when handling financial data entry, reconciliations, and reporting tasks (mandatory).
- Show enthusiasm for learning new concepts quickly while developing foundational knowledge in accounting practices (mandatory).
- Display initiative by proactively seeking ways to contribute positively within a team setting (mandatory).
- Exhibit strong interpersonal skills that foster effective communication with colleagues at all levels (nice to have).
- Bring previous experience working in an administrative or bookkeeping capacity—while not essential, it is highly regarded (nice to have).
- Maintain a diligent approach towards compliance with statutory requirements related to finance and taxation (nice to have).
- Embrace feedback constructively as part of ongoing professional development (nice to have).
