About Capital Chemist
Since 1978, Capital Chemist has been a trusted name in community health, a proudly independent network of pharmacies recognised nationally for quality care, professional standards, and deep community connection. With over 45 pharmacies across the ACT, NSW and Tasmania, the group is widely regarded for its quality healthcare, professional standards, and strong community connection.
The Capital Chemist Support Office (CCSO), based in Canberra, provides shared services to the group including professional advisory, retail support, bookkeeping, payroll, compliance, and strategic guidance. The CCSO ensures consistent quality, alignment, efficiency, and value‑add delivery across the network.
Capital Chemist has a purposeful vision and mission, upon which they have built an outstanding reputation in the communities they operate.
The Opportunity
Following a decade of strong performance and a maturing governance framework, Capital Chemist is seeking an experienced Chief Executive Officer to lead its next chapter.
Reporting to the Board, the CEO will drive strategic direction, culture, and performance across the Support Office and pharmacy network.
This is a hands‑on leadership role that balances commercial decision‑making with collaborative stakeholder engagement. You will work closely with pharmacy partners, the CCSO, the Board, and health sector stakeholders to maintain operational excellence, ensure long‑term sustainability, and enhance the value Capital Chemist delivers to the community.
The Role
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead delivery of the group’s strategy, driving sustainable growth and continuous improvement
- Strengthen commercial performance through innovation, sound investment, and disciplined execution
- Represent Capital Chemist with credibility and influence across the health and community sectors
- Provide authentic, values‑led leadership that builds collaboration and professional pride
- Partner with the Board to ensure strong governance, financial sustainability, and strategic alignment
- Inspire and develop a high‑performing Support Office team committed to service excellence
The Ideal Person
You are a proven senior executive who combines commercial acumen, strategy, and a small business owner’s mindset. You are confident leading through influence and have demonstrated success building trust, driving improvement, and uniting diverse stakeholders.
You may be a registered pharmacist or senior healthcare executive who has led multi‑site pharmacy or healthcare operations, understands PBS and Guild frameworks, and can engage confidently with regulators, health professionals, and pharmacy owners.
Alternatively, you may be a senior leader from retail, FMCG, or a customer‑centric service environment. You have a strong grasp of consumer behaviour, brand and loyalty strategy, and the commercial levers that drive small business profitability and competitiveness.
You will bring a growth mindset, proven leadership, and a sharp eye for new business and service opportunities.
