The Opportunity

Our Geotechnical team is on the lookout for a Technical Executive or Technical Director level consultantto join us in Queensland.

This is a senior and highly specialised role at the interface of scientific rigor and practical implementation. The Technical Executive will be accountable for shaping our approach to ground engineering challenges, driving innovation in tunnelling design and construction, and ensuring project delivery meets the highest standards of safety, sustainability, and operational excellence.

We offer hybrid working and flexible locations, Brisbane, Gold Coast, or Sunshine Coast, so you can base yourself where it suits you best and work from home up to 2 days per week.

In this role, you will:

- Define and champion the vision, strategy, and roadmap for geotechnics and tunnelling, aligning with business priorities and industry evolution
- Lead all technical aspects of ground engineering, from site investigations and risk assessments to tunnel design, construction techniques, and ground improvement
- Deliver high-level technical oversight across complex projects, ensuring solutions are innovative, cost-effective, and technically sound
- Set and enforce rigorous quality standards, driving best practices and compliance with codes, regulations, and safety benchmarks
- Accelerate the integration of cutting-edge technologies, digital tools, and advanced analytics in geotechnical and tunnelling design
- Act as a strategic advisor to key clients, supporting business development, bid strategy, and technical negotiations
- Inspire and mentor multidisciplinary teams, cultivating a culture of excellence, learning, and career growth
- Forge strong partnerships across the ecosystem, collaborating with contractors, consultants, regulators, and academia to deliver integrated solutions
- Represent the organisation as a thought leader, contributing to industry forums, publishing technical papers, and shaping standards
- Proactively identify technical and commercial risks, ensuring project resilience and stakeholder confidence

About You

Your passion for geotechnical engineering is matched by your drive to deliver best practice consulting services and to foster an inclusive, energetic team culture.

- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related discipline. A Master’s degree or PhD is strongly preferred.
- Chartered Engineer status or equivalent (e.g. CPEng, PE, PEng).
- 20+ years of progressive experience in geotechnical and tunnelling, including 8+ years in senior technical and leadership roles
- Demonstrated track record leading major infrastructure projects involving underground works, such as road, rail, water, and utility tunnels, as well as large-scale foundations, retaining structures, and ground improvement schemes
- Deep expertise in soil and rock mechanics, tunnel boring and excavation methods (TBM, NATM, SEM, cut-and-cover), geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring, and ground risk management
- Experience implementing new technologies, such as digital twin modelling, geotechnical data analytics, and advanced simulation tools
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to distil complex technical concepts for diverse audiences
- Inspirational team builder, known for leading high-performing, multidisciplinary teams in fast-paced, high-stakes environments
- Strong understanding of the commercial drivers in consulting, contracting, and design-build environments; experience in project costing, risk allocation, and value engineering
