Position Information
Sir Joseph Banks High School is a comprehensive coeducational high school located in Revesby, in Sydney’s southwest. The school has an enrolment of 955 students, including 25 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. It serves a vibrant and multicultural community, with 85% of students coming from language backgrounds other than English and representing 30 distinct language groups. The school also features an Inclusive Education Centre that provides tailored learning opportunities for 72 students.
Sir Joseph Banks High School is a dynamic and inclusive learning community where every student is known, valued and cared for. The school offers a holistic, student-centred curriculum that is innovative, equitable and responsive to the diverse learning and wellbeing needs of its students.
Strong partnerships with local primary schools, businesses, TAFE, universities and the AECG enrich learning opportunities and strengthen pathways beyond school. This includes a Professional Experience Hub (PEX) which supports the coordination, management and enhancement of professional experience placements for pre-service teachers.
Ongoing professional learning in formative assessment continues to be a school-wide priority, building teacher capacity and empowering students to take greater ownership of their learning. Project-based learning forms the foundation of the Stage 4 connected curriculum, engaging students through authentic, inquiry-based learning experiences.

Specific Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated strong, visible and strategic leadership that builds staff and executive capacity to lead improvement, innovation and change through the implementation of effective systems, processes and practices focused on driving school improvement and the achievement of the School Excellence Plan.
- Demonstrated capacity to lead with a deep of inclusive education, fostering a cohesive and collaborative culture across a diverse school community that includes a large support unit, student services team, non-teaching specialists, wrap‑around support staff and teachers with varied experience.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to work collaboratively to effectively build strategic partnerships and enhance relationships amongst the wider school community.
- Demonstrated capacity to lead, inspire and model a culture of high expectations for staff, students and the community, which promotes highly effective educational practices and inspires confidence in Public Education.
General Selection Criteria
1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P5.
