Position Information

Sydney Secondary College, with campuses at Balmain, Leichhardt and Blackwattle Bay, is an innovative multi-campus public education facility. The college caters for all learners with an academically selective stream, enrichment stream, comprehensive stream and support stream for students with disabilities (Intellectual, Physical and Autism).

The diversity of students from a multiplicity of national and religious backgrounds creates the opportunity for real life learning and authentic experiences.

Located in the inner city of Sydney, with two harbour side locations, students complete Year educations at Balmain or Leichhardt where the focus is on middle schooling. They move to the Blackwattle Bay campus for Years with its broad curriculum and links to TAFE and universities.

As the focus of the NSW Government's Building the Future program, Balmain, Leichhardt and Blackwattle Bay campuses have undergone an $18 million building refurbishment to become one of the state's newest and most progressive public secondary education facilities.

The new Sydney Secondary College offers an invigorating range of opportunities not previously available in a public secondary college environment.

Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria,

  1. Proven capacity as an instructional leader to deliver a high performing collaborative culture generating effective, measurable and sustainable outcomes across the SSC College community.

  2. Proven ability to communicate with influence and authority, a strong vision that drives integrity and high expectations across the SSC College community, enabled and activated through collaboration, consultation and authentic partnerships.

  3. Demonstrated success in strategically building the capacity of high performing leadership teams and to ensure ongoing improvement by engaging in collaborative evidence informed practices which provide seamless optimal educational journeys for students.

  4. Demonstrated ability to drive strategic change, negotiate effectively, and collaborate on college-led programs to achieve meaningful outcomes across three diverse campuses.

General Selection Criteria
  1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

  2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

  3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

  4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

  5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

  6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2020 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. Please view information on the Classification structure for Principals at

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school's RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P5 for 2025.

Applicants are to include details of their WWCC clearance number as part of this application.
