About the role

The Rail Planner’s primary objective is to manage rail operations and planning in a safe, environmentally sensitive and efficient manner.

This involves close customer consultation and implementing, monitoring and reporting of rail services and train operations in accordance with company requirements.

This position is responsible for the management of BSL container and wagon assets in a manner that meets QLRS and customer business requirements.

What your role at Qube will look like:

Leading and Embedding a Safety Culture

- Demonstrate and disseminate a positive safety culture throughout all levels of the business and operations
- Mentor and encourage employee consultation programs that add value to site safety, health, risk management, environmental compliance and quality
- Develop, comply with and promote the QLRS Safety, Health and Environment Management Plan and QLRS Master Risk Register and participate in annual rail safety, internal and external audits of all QLRS locations and operations
- Establish procedures, protocols and processes to detect potential causes of incidents
- Assist in the development and promotion of the QLRS SMS by ensuring that risks are identified, eliminated, mitigated or managed so far as is reasonably practicable
- Ensure that the relevant persons are notified of all category A and B rail safety incidents in accordance with QLRS SMS
- Review mainline and rail terminal operations to ensure compliance with rail safety requirements
- Ensure that rail safety accreditation and compliance with regulatory requirements are maintained through periodic management, meeting review of risk, KPIs and audits
- Participate in accident and incident investigations and ensure that appropriate follow up actions are taken

Operational & People Leadership

- Create weekly schedule in conjunction with customer requirements.
- Path and amend all services to align with program.
- Manage QUBE CONNECT for loading of services and ensure data integrity.
- Manage jobbing up of containers in Maximus
- Maximize service capacity and locomotive utilization
- Influence the teams responsible for the management of train services and resources in a live run environment
- Providing timely operational information and operational support to the QLRS managers
- Prior to the commencement of new operations, review the resource allocations and the resource plan and ensure that the proposed operations are conducted in accordance with those conditions
- Provide support to VIC broad gauge train and steel terminal operations
- Implement plans that ensure resources for the quality, efficiency, safety and costs of rail operations
- Revenue and cost management to ensure the rail business plan is met and/or exceeded

Customer Management

- Customer account management to ensure all needs per the contract are being met and customer expectations are being met and/or exceeded on a day to day basis.
- Leading Customer business review processes, frequency and scope as agreed with each customer
- Providing customer service to internal and external customers
- Promote QLRS in all forums to raise the organisation's profile within industry and to generate additional interest from potential customers
