We have a new Youth Outreach Clinician position available at headspace Chatswood. The Youth Outreach Clinician works as part of a multidisciplinary team to facilitate the engagement and ongoing support of young people and their families. The primary objective of this position is to provide screening and assessment of young people and to provide short-term intervention and referral as part of an integrated team. Family support is also an integral component of this role. The position is part of the Chatswood headspace team and also works via outreach at the Mission Australia Hornsby Office and The Northern Centre Ryde Office.

This position is a Part‑Time (19 hours per week) Max‑Term Contract role to end July 2026. Working days and hours are to be determined in consultation with the successful applicant. Hours may be later on a Monday or Thursday for increased access to the service.

The Day to Day

- Develop strong working relationships with young people, family and friends and local services.
- Carry out assessments, case planning, therapeutic and/or psychoeducational brief interventions and care coordination for young people and their families.
- Support young people to access headspace Chatswood and relevant services as required through consultation and liaison with internal and external service providers according to documented care plans.
- Provide psychoeducation to youth living within the Hornsby and Ryde catchment areas thereby increasing mental health literacy and encouraging help‑seeking.
- Develop and/or participate in community and youth engagement events, activities and promotions.
- Exercise initiative and judgement, under guidance from the headspace Clinical Lead, to proactively improve the experience of young people and service offerings.

What you need to have

- Excellent organisational skills with proven ability to prioritise, work independently and seek consultation as required.
- Demonstrated knowledge and awareness of youth health issues and how they impact on young people.
- Demonstrated experience in mental health assessment, mental health psychoeducation and the delivery of therapeutic brief interventions for clients. (Minimum 3 years ideally).
- Awareness of different cultural contexts and the ability to deliver culturally sensitive services.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and problem‑solving skills and the ability to form appropriate and effective working relationships with young people, families and key services.
- A sound understanding of privacy legislation, the principles of informed consent, limits of confidentiality and mandatory reporting guidelines.
- Compliance Checks: Valid NSW drivers licence, NDIS Worker Screening, NSW Working with Children Check and Current Police Check (not older than 3 months).
