About the role
This is a dynamic opportunity to join the newly-established Office of the Commissioner. This new role will work closely with senior executives and functional areas across the NSW Electoral Commission, as well as other government agencies.
The primary purpose of the Senior Policy and Strategy Advisor is to support the identification, exploration and response to critical whole-of-organisation strategy and policy-related issues.
Reporting to the Director, Office of the Commissioner, the role performs research, analysis, synthesis and engagement tasks to inform advice, strategic co-ordination, quality assurance and general support activities relating to NSW Electoral Commissioner’s priorities. These matters are highly likely to vary over time but would illustratively include: contributing to the development of strategic or operational policies; agency positions on strategic reform issues; reviewing organisational efficiency; and contributing to corporate strategies.
This is an ongoing role based at our Sydney CBD office.
This opportunity is open only to current NSW Electoral Commission employees who are ongoing and temporary (employed for greater than 12 months). Applications from temporary employees employed less than 12 months, contractors or external candidates will not be considered at this stage.
Key knowledge and experience
- Relevant tertiary qualifications, or equivalent experience in strategy, policy or advisory roles within a relevant public or private sector organisation.
- Highly-developed skills in research, analysis and synthesis of advice, including highly-complex information from multiple sources.
- Experience in regularly managing sensitive information. Experience in an integrity agency environment would be an advantage.
- Ability to communicate build effective relationships with a diverse and complex range of stakeholders both internally and externally.
- Highly developed written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Highly developed influencing and negotiation skills.
- Political neutrality with no affiliation to political parties or lobbyists/campaigners.
- A national security clearance to at least NV-01 level from the date of appointment, or the ability to hold one within 6 months of that date (if directed to apply).
- Satisfactory Criminal Record check result.

This role is based in at our Elizabeth Street, Sydney office with a hybrid work arrangement.
