The School
Comet Bay College is a modern state of the art educational facility catering for students in Year 7 to Year 12. The College is situated in Secret Harbour, a coastal community 64 kilometres from Perth and draws students from its partner primary schools located in the Golden Bay and Secret Harbour areas. Due to its popularity and the rapid expansion of residential development around the college, Comet Bay College is a local intake school.
Comet Bay College is seeking a highly motivated, innovative and proactive individual to join our Student Services team as Teacher - Year Coordinator of a year cohort.
Year Coordinators are provided with time allocation (non-teaching) to conduct their role and as such there is no remuneration provided such as Special Responsibilities Allowance (SRA).
The successful applicant will ideally work in collaboration with the Student Services Team, Learning Area staff, and external agencies to support students in a range of settings. They will ideally encourage positive engagement and achievement at school through providing an environment that nurtures the emotional, physical and academic wellbeing of all students.
The successful applicant would follow their allocated cohort through to following years. The role will see you work in close collaboration with the Student Support team which consists of an Associate Principal, three Program Coordinators of Student Support, a Year Coordinator of each year group, school psychologists, one chaplain, three youth officers, clerical staff, Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer and school nurse; so excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to contribute to a productive environment that is inclusive, proactive and flexible is important.
You will ideally provide ongoing pastoral support and have a significant part in the daily management of student behaviour, attendance, engagement, and working closely with students to meet their individual needs. The role requires the application of intervention strategies to provide a responsible and effective support service for students, family members and staff, so the successful applicant should be on site and contactable during the schools operational hours of 8am to 4pm on school days.
The successful applicants should possess strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships. Knowledge and training in Classroom Management Skills (CMS), Restorative Practices and Positive Behaviour Support (WA PBS) will be highly regarded. As the successful applicant you should actively promote positive culture through Student Service events, assemblies and reward days and possess effective planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities within timelines and meet deadlines.
You will ideally have high level knowledge of school and department policy and process, excellent record keeping skills, and the capacity to de-escalate conflict with distressed students, caregivers, and staff. A commitment to ongoing professional learning and professional growth will be highly regarded.
You will ideally actively lead the Year cohort including case management (including mental health, attendance, behaviour) as such experience and engagement with external agencies along with skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students experiencing difficulties will be advantageous.
