Overview
We are recruiting a part-time experienced Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse to join our Contraceptive nursing team within Northamptonshire Integrated Sexual Health and HIV (NISHH). The closing date is 31 October 2025.
Based at the Sexual Health Clinic at Northampton General Hospital, you will report to the Lead Nurse and may also work at spoke sites in Daventry, Brackley and Towcester as required. You should be able to travel across Northamptonshire County. Clinic hours vary with appointments offered from 8am – 8pm, Monday to Friday, with some Saturday clinics available.
Main duties of the job
Sexual health nursing offers job satisfaction by supporting a patient through their entire service journey. With training and relevant experience, you will be able to apply for senior roles within the nursing team. The role underpins many elements of service delivery and provides crucial support to the more senior nursing and medical teams. The Band 6 role is a key component of running all clinics and managing patients.
- Face to face and remote assessments and management of patients attending clinic for all methods of contraception, including fitting and removing sub-dermal implants and intrauterine contraception.
- Face to face and remote assessments and testing of patients for sexually transmitted infections.

Qualifications
- Sub-dermal implant fit and removal – Letter of Competence
- Intrauterine contraception fitting and removal – Letter of Competence
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience working in GU or CRH setting as Band 5 or above
- Ability/willing to travel across county
- Experience working under PGDs
- Experience working with young people
Knowledge
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of contraception including emergency contraception and long-acting reversible contraception (LARC).
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), STI testing and treatment.
- Good understanding of confidentiality specific to sexual health
- Demonstrates good knowledge of safeguarding relating to Sexual Health
