Key Highlights

- Vital role in maintaining the technology behind quality patient care
- Support excellence in healthcare through reliable medical technology

About the Role

As a Senior Technician Electronics, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of biomedical equipment across Perth Children’s Hospital.

In this role you will undertake both preventative and reactive maintenance on a diverse range of medical devices – including patient monitors, ventilators, stretchers, gas flow and suction regulators, gas‑blending systems, and infusion pumps. While the equipment is electronic, mechanical skills are also highly valued as most equipment incorporates elements of both disciplines.

Working as part of a skilled and supportive team, you will ensure all equipment is maintained in accordance with MTMU procedures, TGA regulations, and manufacturer recommendations. Together with the team you will utilise maintenance data to triage and prioritise repairs, maintain service continuity, and enable the delivery of high‑quality healthcare and clinical excellence.

You will join a diverse, highly skilled, and collaborative team committed to technical excellence and continuous improvement. This role offers opportunities for a rich learning environment with opportunities to advance your knowledge across electronic, mechanical, and clinical engineering skills, and broader skill development as we support critical projects such as integration of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and new imaging solutions.

Key Responsibilities

- Carry out maintenance, repair, performance testing and quality assurance of specialised medical, surgical and scientific equipment.
- Provide timely technical support and after‑hours emergency maintenance services as required.
- Deliver advice and training to clinical and hospital staff on the safe and effective use of medical equipment.
- Maintain accurate equipment records and ensure compliance with quality management and safety standards.
- Keep up‑to‑date knowledge of relevant medical technologies, fault‑finding techniques and safety procedures.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support departmental quality audits and documentation.
- Assist with the design and construction of electro‑mechanical systems as required.

About our Team

The Medical Equipment Management Unit (MEMU) provides specialised engineering and technical support for a wide range of biomedical and diagnostic devices across Perth Children’s Hospital and associated sites.

Our department supports a large and varied equipment portfolio – over 24,000 medical devices valued at more than $107 million, spanning 167 sites. Equipment ranges from digital thermometers and blood‑pressure monitors through to complex, high‑end medical technologies. We play a vital role in supporting critical care areas such as the Neonatal Transport Unit, Surgical Theatres, Intensive Care Unit, wards, and outpatient clinics.

Whether your expertise lies in electronics or mechanical, we’d love to hear from you - applicants with skills across both areas will be highly valued.

Selection Criteria

Selection will be based on the attached Job Description Form (available online at www.jobs.health.wa.gov.au). Please see the attached form for detailed criteria.

Eligibility to Apply

To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid working visa (for fixed‑term appointments) or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments).

Other Conditions

WA Health engages staff in positions of trust and responsibility. WA Health policies require applicants to undertake a criminal records screening and integrity check as part of the appointment process. They may also be required to undertake a working with children check (if required for the role) and a pre‑employment health assessment. We may ask referees to comment on your integrity and past demonstration of ethical behaviour. Please note that adverse information does not necessarily disqualify an applicant but will be considered as part of the appointment process.

EEO & Equality Statement

WA Health is committed to eliminating all forms of discrimination in the provision of our service. We embrace diversity and strongly encourage applications from people from culturally diverse backgrounds and people with disabilities.

In addition, we are committed to growing our Aboriginal workforce as part of WA Health Aboriginal Workforce Policy. Achieving equality, Section 51 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 applies to this position and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are encouraged to apply.
