As a Finance Analyst the post holder will be pivotal in supporting the Finance Manager and Finance Business Partner in month end reporting, analysis and discussing monthly reports with cost centre managers.
This role will help non-finance managers understand their role as a budget holder and communication with this staff group is key. Experience in understanding and analysing finance data will be key along with effectively communicating budget holder feedback which will support with forecasting.
There may be requirement for you to work across both UHN sites.
Main duties of the job
An opportunity has arisen for a permanent experienced Finance Analyst to assist with all aspects of financial management information collation within the finance department. You will be required to be an experienced user of excel with strong analytical skills. Previous experience of financial management would also be an advantage.
The post holder will be expected to assist the Finance Manager and Business Partner to provide robust monthly budgetary reporting, variance analysis and regular provision of forecasts, enabling an effective financial management service to be provided to the budget holders and managers within the Trust. Good interpersonal and communication, especially verbal skills, are essential with an ability to work as part of a team.

Job responsibilities
Financial Management: To undertake routine monthly analysis of budget variances, provide written explanation of variances and initiate corrective action, as required. To support with financial models appropriate to the regular provision of forecasts. To act as first point of contract for financial queries and advice for budget holders. To provide support and assistance to the Finance Manager and Business Partner on business cases and specific finance projects. To provide ad-hoc Financial Management data and analysis to staff within the organisation utilising the necessary techniques or software tools where appropriate. Version January 2025 To present complex information, financial updates and reports to a range of managers within the Trust in relation to activity, income, workforce and expenditure. Respond to requests for performance information and advice, which will often involve negotiating with information providers over timescales and providing support tointerpret and use the information. To assist the Business Partner in the preparation and production of performance information to meet reporting/commissioner requirements, including monthly PFRreturns, annual planning submissions and benchmarking information. Collate and analyse activity, workforce and financial trends in a format that is userfriendly to both Finance and Non-finance managers. Support with preparation of Trust reporting and external reporting submissions analysis and preparation of adhoc information as required. Other: Use own initiative to prioritise daily workload in order to meet financial deadlines both internal and external. Actively participate in team meetings, making suggestions for service improvement both within the Finance team and relating to the Trust in general. Review, prepare and update procedure notes relating to the tasks of the role in light of changing legislation, guidance, system developments or Trust policies. Assist in the development of strong team relationships and relationships with key stakeholders across the organisation. Project a professional and helpful image. Flexible and aware of competing priorities. Willing to personally develop skills and knowledge.
Person Specification
Educations, Training and Qualifications
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
- Good accounting knowledge working at NVQ level 5, working towards AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) Membership, or equivalent experience.
Knowledge and Experience
- Cost and management accounting
- NHS - Minimum three years financial management/costing/commissioning experience in the NHS or an equivalent large and complex organisation
- In-depth experience of; Financial Management as regards an Acute NHS Foundation Trust
- NHS Foundation Trust financial regime
- An ability to analyse complex financial and performance data and draw appropriate conclusions
- Use of software applications (Microsoft)

EFFORT & ENVIRONMENT
- A substantial proportion of each day will be inputting at a keyboard and sitting at a desk
- Frequent requirement for concentration when checking and reconciling information and when answering enquiries from senior staff and suppliers
- Concentration is required as work patterns will be interrupted on a frequent basis as a result of unpredictable enquiries and requests for information and assistance from other finance staff and budget managers.
- There will be occasions where prolonged concentration is required e.g. month end deadlines
- Uses keyboard continuously for a substantial part of every day.
