About the opportunity
There are currently two (2) permanent positions available for immediate filling. These positions are located in Geraldton and Carnarvon. Geraldton is a large coastal living city known for its fishing, beaches, Mediterranean climate, and as a gateway to the region/'s natural wonders, including the Abrolhos Islands, Kalbarri Gorges, and the Pink Lake (Hutt Lagoon).
Carnarvon lies at the mouth of the Gascoyne River on the Indian Ocean and has a tropical climate. It’s known for its fishing, water activities, fresh produce, places to visit and station stays when you’re out and about exploring WA’s very own Coral Coast.
As a Senior Fisheries and Marine Officer, you will lead compliance and enforcement activities related to fisheries and marine legislation. This role oversees investigations, surveillance, community education and mentoring employees in compliance activities. You will be responsible for planning and conducting patrols, as well as supporting prosecution processes within the region. Additionally, you will provide guidance on the interpretation of legislation, engage with the community ensuring they are obeying the law and aware of consequences.
We are looking for individuals who have:
- Certificate qualifications in compliance and investigations and/or possession of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of relevant compliance legislation, compliance governance framework, and operational procedures.
- Ability to interpret and apply legislation.
- Ability to engage with stakeholders using your well-developed written and verbal communication skills

DPIRD is an Emergency Management Agency and all employees may be required to work or travel during, or outside of, normal business hours to assist with incidents and emergencies.
