About us
The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) is the leading advocate for surgical standards, professionalism and surgical education in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. The College is a not‑for‑profit organisation that represents more than 8600 surgeons and 1300 surgical trainees and Specialist International Medical Graduates. RACS also supports healthcare and surgical education in the Asia‑Pacific region and is a substantial funder of surgical research. There are nine surgical specialties in Australasia: Cardiothoracic, General, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic, Otolaryngology Head and Neck, Paediatric, Plastic and Reconstructive, Urology and Vascular Surgery.
About the role
You will be responsible for supporting the activities of the Surgical Audits, including the Australian and New Zealand Audit of Surgical Mortality (ANZASM). ANZASM is an independent peer review process for evaluating the quality of surgical care in patient mortality, in collaboration with governments, RANZCOG, anaesthetic mortality committees, and RACS staff.
As a self‑starter you will analyse data collected from hospitals and surgeons, follow up on surveys, evaluate feedback and produce reports, booklets and manuscripts. You will work with the Surgical Audit Manager and other audit staff to facilitate research with Fellows, academics, collaborators and students. You will brief the manager on progress and provide advice on relevant issues.
The position is full‑time, initially a 12‑month maximum contract with the possibility of extension.
About you
- BSc (Hons) or equivalent health degree.
- Ability to use statistical programmes such as Stata, R, Python or SPSS to analyse and interpret large and complex datasets.
- Exceptional organisation skills with the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, solve problems and perform tasks efficiently.
- Excellent attention to detail with demonstrated ability to review complex written material and produce clear, concise reports and correspondence.
- A warm, positive and professional approach with written and oral communication skills suitable for a flexible, rapidly changing environment.
