Warrnambool, Australia Diocese Full time

Part-time (0.6) ongoing position based in Warrnambool

About Us

The Diocese of Ballarat Catholic Education Limited (DOBCEL) governs 57 Catholic primary and secondary schools and supports six Diocesan secondary colleges across Western Victoria — from the Murray to the sea.

Guided by our DOBCEL Strategy 2035, we are responding thoughtfully to the changing needs of our communities and the challenges facing education today. Rooted in our Catholic faith and tradition, we are rethinking and renewing Catholic education so that every child can experience fullness of life through learning, belonging, and faith.

Our work is grounded in five strategic pillars: Collaborative Cultures, Engagement and Belonging, School as Community, Rich Pedagogical Practices for Deeper Learning and Wellbeing, and Sustainable Stewardship. These principles shape how we work together in partnership across schools and the wider community.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and passionate educator to join our Wellbeing Team as an Education Officer: Learning Diversity.

In this key role, you will strengthen the capacity of school leaders and teachers to provide inclusive learning environments that ensure every student is supported to thrive. Working collaboratively across the diocese, you will develop, implement and promote evidence-based practices, programs and policies that help schools make effective adjustments for students with disabilities.

You will contribute to our shared mission of enabling every learner to access, participate and achieve within a community of faith and care.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide expert advice to school leaders and teachers on inclusive practices aligned with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and Disability Standards for Education (DSE).

- Build the capacity of school staff to design and implement effective adjustments and teaching strategies.

- Support schools to create inclusive classroom environments through the Intervention Framework.

- Assist schools to meet their obligations under the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD).

- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and liaise with external agencies to support access and participation.

- Contribute to system-wide initiatives and policies to strengthen inclusive education across DOBCEL schools.

About You

You are a collaborative, knowledgeable and values-driven educator who is passionate about inclusion and equity in learning.

You will bring:

- Tertiary qualifications in Education and current registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).

- Postgraduate qualifications (or intent to undertake further study) in Special Education or a related area.

- Proven experience in inclusive education and contemporary, evidence-based teaching practices.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within and across teams.

- A commitment to the Catholic ethos and the mission of DOBCEL.

- A current Victorian Driver’s Licence and readiness to travel across the diocese.

Key Selection Criteria

- Demonstrated expertise in inclusive education, including the ability to design, implement and support evidence-based teaching practices and adjustments for students with diverse learning needs.

- Capacity to build the capability of school leaders and teachers through professional learning, collaboration, and the development of inclusive practices that enhance student engagement and achievement.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with school leadership teams, staff, families, and external agencies in a multidisciplinary context.

- Commitment to the Catholic ethos and mission of DOBCEL, and alignment with its vision for fostering wellbeing, inclusion and fullness of life for all students.

Benefits

- Impactful Work: Play a vital role in supporting educators and school leaders across Western Victoria.

- Professional Growth: Access ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and advance your career.

- Supportive Environment: Join a collaborative and inclusive team that values innovation, partnership, and respect.

- Work-Life Balance: Benefit from a flexible and supportive workplace culture that understands the importance of balancing professional commitments with personal well-being.

Applicants will be required to submit:

- Cover letter

- Resume

- Response addressing the Key Selection Criteria above

For a confidential discussion about the role contact:

Tony Perkins, Leader: Wellbeing, on 0417 007 166

Applications close Sunday 9 November

Guided by our vision of “the pursuit of fullness of life for all,” DOBCEL is committed to inclusion and the safety, wellbeing, and protection of all children and young people in our care.
