Transport Canberra is looking for confident, community-focused individuals to help shape a safer, more respectful public transport experience across the ACT.

As a Transit Enforcement Officers (TEO), you’ll be at the forefront of public safety, customer service, and operational excellence across the Transport Canberra network where no two days are the same. Working from varying locations and meeting people from all walks of life, you’ll make a real impact on the public transport experience by supporting drivers and passengers addressing anti-social behaviour and providing education and fare compliance activities.

What You’ll Do

- Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for passengers by deterring and managing anti-social behaviour across buses and transport infrastructure.

- Use sound judgement and discretion to de-escalate volatile or emotionally charged situations calmly and professionally.

- Deliver high-level customer service, providing guidance and support to passengers and bus operators.

- Provide first aid when required, ensuring passenger wellbeing.

- Supervise operational staff, supporting team cohesion and performance (note: this is not a direct line management role).

- Work rostered shifts which include early morning, afternoon, late-night and weekend shifts.

- Wear or be prepared to wear a Body Worn Camera (BWC) in accordance with CED protocols as part of a current trial initiative.

Eligibility/Other requirements:

- A Pre-employment medical is required including drug and alcohol testing.

- First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain and maintain)

- Minimum C class drivers licence is preferred.

- Must be eligible to be appointed as an Authorised Person under the Road Transport (General) Act 1999,

- Must be Australian citizen or a permanent resident of Australia.

- Applicants must submit a copy of their Australian birth certificate or Australian Citizenship Certificate, or current Australian passport or valid Permanent Resident Visa supported by a foreign passport.

- Must successfully complete all pre-employment checks including police check.

- If found suitable for the role, you will be asked to complete a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and submit relevant documents for Transport Canberra to undertake the police check.

- Must be considered a suitable person to be authorised, having regard in particular to –

- whether the person has any criminal convictions; and

- the person’s employment record; and

- Must successfully complete adequate training to exercise the powers of an authorised person

Demonstrated experience working effectively as part of a public transport operational team or in a related frontline service role, contributing to a safe, respectful, and customer-focused environment would be highly desirable.

Notes: This is a temporary position available immediately with the possibility of extension.

A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
