About the Role

As part of the SXSW Sydney Music Team, you will help curate a music festival that attracts artists and music industry professionals, press and audiences to SXSW Sydney.

The Music Festival Program Manager is a creative, collaborative individual with a music industry background. They will have a deep knowledge of music and an enthusiasm for identifying new talent and trends, a creative approach to festival programming and a drive to connect art with audiences.

What does a day in the life look like?

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Curate and program a diverse range of music festival content alongside Head of Music and Music Programming Executive, plus an assessor panel.

- Solicit, research and obtain artists and speakers and other industry leaders for possible festival consideration.

- Develop and maintain relationships with music companies, brands, agencies, advocacy groups and other industry entities.

- Evaluate public submissions for festival content.

- Stay current on the overall music, music tech and adjacent industry trends within Australia and abroad (with a focus on APAC).

- Work with internal teams to ensure a smooth event experience for partners and attendees both leading up to the event and onsite.

- Manage on‑site delivery of music festival and conference programming.

About you

Essential Skills and Experience

- You will have at least three years in programming or curatorial roles across the music industry and bring with you an understanding of the music industry ecosystem and its various communities.

- You are team oriented; a ‘let’s get‑it‑done’ person and can collaborate with a “do what it takes” approach.

- You can perform multiple tasks in high pressure situations, whilst maintaining a positive attitude throughout.

- Proficiency with common project management software platforms.

- You clearly and confidentially communicate strategies with passion and knowledge, and are proficient with client facing and internal team presentations.

- Experience, knowledge or insight into music scenes and industry of the wider APAC region will be favourably considered.

Key Considerations

This role requires you to:

- Work outside of normal business hours and on the weekends.

- Spend extended periods of time on your feet at events.
