Position Information
Minerva School is a School for Specific Purposes located in the suburb of Sutherland. It is a dynamic educational setting that provides a high quality and individualised education for up to 56 students, across 8 classes. We provide a specialised education for students with a mild to moderate intellectual disability, autism and/or associated mental health support needs.
The school provides a tailored and modified K-6 program and Years 7-12 Life Skills curriculum. Every student has an individualised learning program which is developed in collaboration with parents, carers and a range of allied health and vocational services and experts to ensure each student is provided with a unique educational experience that covers their social, emotional, behavioural and sensory needs.
Specific Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach Inclusive Education and/or demonstrated experience teaching K-12 within a complex and specialised setting, with the ability to adapt teaching practices to meet the diverse needs of students with mild to moderate learning disabilities, autism and/or mental health.
- Proven involvement in the implementation of new curriculum and assessment frameworks, including contributions to curriculum development and capacity to utilise the Literacy and Numeracy Learning Progressions to effectively meet the individual needs of a diverse range of students in multi‑staged classes.
- Demonstrated skill in applying sensory regulation strategies, play‑based learning, and evidence‑informed behaviour support approaches to enhance student wellbeing, engagement, and positive behaviour within inclusive classroom environments.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to build positive relationships and work collaboratively with students, colleagues, parents/carers and external providers to develop and evaluate Personalised Learning and Support Plans (PLASP) and contribute positively to whole‑school culture.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
