Byford Secondary College (SC) is seeking to establish a pool of Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers for permanent and fixed term vacancies that may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Byford SC is a newer school in Perth’s southern suburbs with modern facilities and a diverse student body. The college provides a comprehensive suite of subjects from Years 7 to 12 and supports high-quality teaching and learning experiences.
Our school supports staff development and work-life balance, with targeted professional learning, mentoring, instructional coaching and aspirant leadership development programs. The Fogarty Edvance program guides planning and improvement, and a pilot teacher Intern program (ITE-EXTEND) with Murdoch University is planned for 2024 to support high-quality graduates in internships at the College.
Role and Responsibilities
The AIEO assists teachers in delivering planned education programs and fosters a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinate and lead the Follow the Dream (FTD) Program and support students through their academic journey.
- Collaborate with the FTD coordinator and Associate Principal; plan incursions and excursions as required; communicate with caregivers.
- Act as a liaison between the local community and school to develop educational partnerships with Primary Schools to share cultural experiences and knowledge.
- Work with the Student Services team to mentor students at risk and provide pastoral care; engage with external services to support post-school outcomes.
AIEOs contribute to inclusive practice and support students to access their educational program, with an emphasis on understanding the multicultural learning environment.

Qualifications and Selection Criteria

Indicative selection criteria include:
- Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students, teachers, parents, community members and professional staff.
- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse audiences.
- Ability to contribute to a school-level team and provide multi-cultural direction in developing educational programs and language resources.
- Ability to assist teachers in implementing educational and behaviour management programs.
- Good organizational skills to support delivery of education programs.
- Ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.

Eligibility and Compliance
