Overview

We are seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant - Special Needs for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies that may arise during the 2026 school year up to the end of Term 3, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Salary: Level 2/3, $34.87 - $39.37 per hour (EA (Gov) GA 2025) | Work Type: Fixed Term - Full Time, Fixed Term - Part Time, Permanent - Full Time, Permanent - Part Time

The Role

As a Special Needs Education Assistant, you will under teacher direction, assist in the education programs and in promoting a supportive and inclusive learning environment. You will assist teachers in delivering planned education programs to help students reach their full potential across academic, social, emotional and physical skills, including the operation of computers and digital technologies. You may provide feedback on education and therapy programs and participate in the evaluation process relating to the achievement of goals in special education.

You should have strong interpersonal skills and work collaboratively with staff to meet student needs. Ideally, you will have knowledge and experience working with students with a range of disabilities and learning difficulties, supporting student growth both academically and socially in the classroom.

Responsibilities

- Assist teachers in delivering planned education programs and promoting an inclusive learning environment.
- Support development of students’ academic, social, emotional and physical skills including use of computers and digital technologies.
- Provide feedback on education and therapy programs as required and participate in goal achievement evaluation.
- Collaborate with staff to meet diverse student needs in a range of disabilities and learning difficulties.

Qualifications & Experience

- High level of interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with staff and students.
- Experience or knowledge of working with students with disabilities and learning difficulties is preferred.
- Ability to support student growth within the classroom setting.

- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.

- Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including interaction with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on educational program provisions.
- Demonstrated good interpersonal and teamwork skills in evaluating educational programs, including special education and therapy programs.
- Demonstrated good organisational skills to support delivery and development of effective education programs.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with implementation of educational programs, including occupational and/or physiotherapy programs if required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Demonstrated ability to support general health and well-being of students.
