Legal Counsel - Property - 12 Month Contract
You will be joining a leading national retail organisation on a 12 month fixed term contract with a focus on retail leasing within their established legal team based in Melbourne.
About the Role
Responsibilities include:
- Provide expert legal advice on all aspects of retail leasing, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating lease agreements for various retail properties across Australia.
- Support the business’s property portfolio by managing lease renewals, terminations, assignments, and variations in accordance with relevant legislation and company policies.
- Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders such as property managers, finance teams, and senior management to ensure seamless execution of leasing transactions.
- Assist with dispute resolution processes related to leasing matters, offering practical solutions that align with both legal requirements and commercial objectives.
- Keep abreast of changes in property law and retail leasing regulations to ensure ongoing compliance and mitigate potential risks for the business.
- Prepare clear and concise reports on leasing activities, providing regular updates to the legal team and other departments as required.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of best practice procedures within the legal function, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Participate actively in team meetings and knowledge-sharing sessions to support collective learning and maintain high standards of service delivery.
About You
You have:
- 3-5PQE with current practising certificate and relevant legal qualifications
- Demonstrate substantial experience advising on retail leasing matters, including drafting and negotiating leases for shopping centres or similar assets.
- Showcase excellent written and verbal communication skills that enable you to explain complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal colleagues.
- Display strong organisational abilities with proven capacity to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
