**Job no**: 523081

**Work type**: casual

The role of the research interviewer involves conducting structured surveys via face to face interviews with people who regularly use stimulant drugs at designated sites for the Ecstasy and related Drugs Reporting System (EDRS). EDRS is an annual research project run by the Drug Trends Team at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC).

This role will be based in Canberra, ACT.

**This role will require you to**:

- Conduct 1-hour long structured surveys via face-to-face interviews with people who regularly use stimulant drugs at designated sites. Telephone interviews may be conducted according to participants' preferences.
- Participate in virtual training sessions, reading through manuals and interviewing resources, conducting practice interviews, and attending briefings (face-to-face and via telephone).
- Support the data collection team by completing interviews in a timely manner and reporting to the team coordinator of any issues that may arise.
- Follow instructions from the team coordinator on site specific interviewing processes and protocols.
- Follow clear instructions from the team coordinator including health and safety training, data collection training and data entry training.

**A person engaged is generally expected to have the following skills and experience**:

- Experience collecting quantitative data, or conducting interviews as part of a research project in Alcohol and other Drugs (AOD) is desirable.
- Basic knowledge of drug trends is desirable.
- Ability to conduct interviews in a respectful, ethical, and non-judgmental manner.
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with a wide variety of people.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and attention to detail.
- Basic IT skills(tablets, iPads, laptops, etc.)

The structured interviews will take place sporadically throughout the week (including weekends), and will be scheduled based on the casuals’ availability to work. They may come with short notice, so flexibility is advantageous. Work hours will vary, it is not uncommon to have very few interviews one week, and multiple another week.

Guidance and training on the survey, data collection methodology, drug knowledge and issue management will be provided via training presentations, Q&As and briefings prior to interviewing.

The EDRS training and data collection period is expected to commence from 7th April to 30th June 2024, or when the target of 100 eligible interviews has been reached.
