Justice Health NSW is a challenging yet rewarding place to take your career even further. With industry-leading safety standards, you can focus on doing your best work alongside skilled colleagues while gaining job training to progress your career.

**The Role**

The Aboriginal Mental Health, Social and Emotional Wellbeing Peer Worker will utilise their lived experience to support Aboriginal patients accessing the NSW Community Forensic Mental Health Services, and to shape the delivery of culturally safe services by the Community Transitions Team (CTT) and the Community Forensic Mental Health Service (CFMHS). These services provide forensic mental health assessment, care and treatment to people transitioning from custody into the community, and to Forensic Patients living in the community under conditions to receive treatment. This essential role will be pivotal in providing a culturally safe space for Aboriginal patients to identify the support and care that they need to remain living safely in the community.

The Aboriginal Mental Health Peer Worker will work closely alongside the CTT and CFMHS clinicians to support Network community patients in developing hope, autonomy and purpose; support engagement with family and community; improve connections with Aboriginal culture, spirituality, identity, and with country; whilst focusing on optimising mental health and physical health to enable participation in a range of roles important to the individual and community such as work, education, and care-giving.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

- This is an identified Aboriginal Health position. Applicants must be a person of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent. An applicant's race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14 of the Antidiscrimination Act 1977 NSW. Aboriginal applicants must demonstrate Aboriginality in addition to addressing the selection criteria.
- A lived experience of social and emotional wellbeing challenges with the ability to draw on your own personal recovery experience to support others.
- Willingness to complete training such as the Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, or Djirruwang program.

**Salary & Benefits**

Your salary (dependent on classification and qualification) plus super and leave loading is just the beginning.

You’ll have access to:

- Additional allowances and salary packaging options.
- Fitness Passport (if eligible).
- Genuine career progression and skill-set development.
- Support from an enthusiastic and invested team of managers and colleagues.

**Diversity & Inclusivity**

We are an equal-opportunity employer. We employ all ages and genders, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse groups, the LGBTQIA+ community, veterans, refugees and people with disability.

**Ready to Apply?**

The first step is to submit your resume and answers to the following selection criteria:
1. To have a lived experience of social and emotional wellbeing challenges with the ability to draw on your own personal recovery experience to support others.

2. Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or Djirruwang program (or willingness to obtain these qualifications); or relevant health related qualification and combination of experience.

3. Understanding of the challenges Aboriginal consumers may experience in accessing mental health services, and having contact with the criminal justice system.

4. Proven ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, and actively contribute to care planning in a team setting.

5. Demonstrated clear written and verbal communication, including negotiation and problem solving skills, as well as computer skills (MS Office).

6. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective partnerships with a range of key stakeholders including consumers, carers, families, communities, multidisciplinary teams and non-government organisations.
