**The Role**
Make a difference in our community

The Youth Development Officer is required to work as a member of Council’s Youth Services Team, working in a place-based way within a local area in the municipality. You will also be assigned other projects as well as municipal wide activities and events.

**About you**
You will work alongside young people to assist with raising voices, expanding choices and creating opportunities and connection within a place-based model. You will develop links, systems and capacity for young people to participate in, connect with and contribute to the community. This role needs to work appropriately with the diverse community of the municipality and must generate a wide variety of responses and identify resources and opportunities for access by young people.

Identifying strategic actions for Youth Services, in a local area, that will support young people as they negotiate complex issues and transitions in their lives.

You will contribute to the development of the social and physical infrastructure of the municipality to achieve the vision, goals and actions articulated in the Community Plan 2021 - 2025 and the YouthPlan2030+.

**About you**
- Tertiary qualification suitable for working in the Youth Work field and substantial experience in working with young people (minimum of 5 years), preferably in a Local Government setting
- Highly developed programmatic skills and the ability to target specific audiences
- A demonstrated commitment to working ethically with young people, as defined by the Code of Ethical Practice for the Victorian Youth Sector. Knowledge of developmental, community, and strength-based principles and practices
- An understanding of the contemporary context and experiences of young people; the development, challenges and transitions inherent in their life course, incorporating the ability to articulate how this relates to the needs of young people, 10 to 25 years old in the City of Whittlesea
- Proven ability to successfully engage and communicate with young people and evidence of working effectively with a diverse range of young people, their families and communities
- Ability to design and deliver training workshops and presentations, and research, plan, deliver, evaluate and report on a variety of programs and activities
