**Who are we?**:
We’re here to help people live well and create a better and more sustainable future. We support healthy and liveable communities by delivering water, sewerage and recycled water services to 1.77 million people who rely on us every day and every night. At South East Water, we innovate with purpose and act with care to deliver healthy water for life. Fresh thinking and collaboration are at the heart of our organisation. We are constantly learning, embracing the challenges of today and excited by the opportunities that tomorrow will bring.
**The role**:
We are looking for someone with initiative and a can-do attitude to join us as a Trade Waste Officer. The role is part of a supportive team and is critical in managing our key objectives which are to ensure the safety of people working within the sewerage system, protect the sewerage assets, treatment processes, minimise environmental impacts and maximise opportunities for the reuse of wastewater by-products, such as recycled water.
As a Trade Waste Officer, your day may involve:
- Managing our highest risk “locked batch” customers, including liquid waste treaters and landfills whereby you will isolate all inlet / outlet valves and take samples so we can assess applicability to discharge.
- Inspect pre-treatment apparatus such as food & oil interceptors, petrol & oil interceptors through to large treatment plants to ensure they have been installed and maintained in good working order.
- Talking with your Manager, Technical Support Engineers and Officers to prioritise your tasks and help resolve complex issues and technical matters.
- Undertake a range of field-based inspections such as site investigations, change of occupiers, deletions, pump out frequency assessments and ensuring compliance with customer’s consent.
- Visiting our industrial customers to obtain samples, checking discharge data / flow rates to sewer and overall compliance with the consent.
- Ensure instrumentation such as electromagnetic flow meters, data loggers and alarms are accurately monitoring and recording trade waste discharge to sewer.
- Monitor temporary discharges to sewer from construction related activities to ensure appropriate management of groundwater discharge to sewer.
- Manage non-compliance cases through to resolution.
**Who are you?**:
We are looking for someone who:
- Enjoys a mix of outdoor and desk-based work.
- Prioritises workloads and manages time to schedule daily, weekly and monthly work to meet KPI’s.
- Likes solving problems, has a good work ethic and uses initiative.
- Enjoys working autonomously as well as within a team.
- Has strong negotiation and communication skills both written and verbal.
- Is able to manage difficult customers.
- Can share ideas and engage with a variety of people.
- Ideally has a background in trade waste, is passionate and a willingness to learn.
**What's in it for you?**:
- A commitment to work-life balance with truly flexible working arrangements, including hybrid working and leave purchasing.
- 15 weeks paid parental leave for all parents and paid super on unpaid parental leave
- A range of benefits, including free on-site parking and cultural leave.
- A great culture working in collaborative teams with strong work ethics.
- Career focused learning and development opportunities.
- The opportunity to be part of an organisation committed to environmental initiatives.
- Enjoy modern office facilities with panoramic beachfront views.
**We're for everyone**:
We do meaningful work, but how we do it is just as important. We’re here to help people live well, protect the environment, and keep healthy water and resources accessible and affordable for all. We know to make a positive difference we need to support our people to be their very best. Flexibility and innovation are at the heart of how we work. But it’s our people’s collective ambition, authenticity and differences that bring our culture to life.
Our people are as diverse as the communities we serve. Everyone brings a unique voice and a refreshing perspective that keeps us innovating. It makes us better learners, thinkers and collaborators, helping create better outcomes for our customers. Even though we’re all different, we still share a common goal to deliver healthy water for life.
**Keen to make an impact?**:
South East Water operates a 24/7 service environment. Whilst this role does not involve after-hours rostered duty, all employees may be required to provide out of hours support from time to time as required
