St Mark’s Lutheran School was established in 1982 by the St Mark’s Lutheran Church in Mount Barker to

provide quality Christian education to our community. From small beginnings we have grown to a current

enrolment of 308 students in 14 classes. We are highly regarded in our community for excellence in

education and care for all in our community. We exist for the people we serve through our school.

We are entering a significant phase of development as we position ourselves to remain an educational

leader in our rapidly growing and developing Mt Barker township. Key focus areas will be delivering initiatives

of our recently adopted strategic plan and ensuring our systems and processes satisfy high levels of

compliance in all areas of risk, policy and human resources.

**. Summary of the broad purpose of the job in relation to the School’s goals**

The Business Manager is part of the Executive Management Team and fulfils a key leadership role that is

responsible for the business/financial operations as well as the infrastructure of the School. This also includes

but is not limited to: leadership and strategy development, management of personnel, human resources,

marketing, compliance standards, systems and record management, risk management, property and project

management.

This executive role fosters collaborative relationships, effective communications, and a positive and dynamic

work culture to support the learning program of the School.

The Business Manager is the public officer for the School and will perform the management duties and

responsibilities as required by the Associations Incorporation Act, the School’s Constitution and any other

relevant legislation or regulatory governing body.

This crucial leadership role will provide advisory support to the School Executive Management team and

School Council on strategy, business, financial, compliance and operational matters.

**. Reporting / Working Relationships**

The Business Manager supports and reports directly to the Principal and is an active member of the School

Executive Management Team.

The Business Manager is responsible for the business and administration team. The Business Manager fosters

collaborative relationships with all personnel within the School and develops strong relationships with key

stakeholders including businesses, local government, old scholars, families and individuals to help build local

community, increase sponsors’ support and students’ opportunities.

The Business Manager will be required to recognise and work within the complexities of relationships between

the Principal and school leadership, teaching staff, administration, supplier contractors, maintenance staff,

students and parents/caregivers.

It is expected that the Business Manager will uphold the roles and responsibilities of each respective group and

individual member and seek to encourage the development of positive relationships between all sectors of

the School community.

The role of Business Manager encompasses activities within the following vocational practices as described in

**. Special Conditions**

The Business Manager is employed under the salary and conditions specified in the current LESNW Business

Managers Salaries and Conditions Agreement.

**. Extent of Authority**

The Business Manager will be directly responsible to the Principal in all matters pertaining to the job description,

and through them, is responsible to the School Council.

In concert with the Principal, the Business Manager will be ultimately responsible for the Human Resources

functions including maintaining the employment conditions and contracts of all staff.

The Business Manager is the public officer for the organization and is subsequently responsible for meeting the

requirements of legislated compliance activities.
