**About Ready Reader**
We are a non-profit, based in Victoria, taking high-achieving and passionate university students studying to become teachers (also known as pre-service teachers or PST’s), training them, and then matching them with early years classrooms (Prep to Grade 2) to help children learn to read through one-on-one sessions.
Our mission is simple: to close the literacy gap for five to seven year olds across Australia who read below grade level.
The evidence of studies shows a love of reading leads to increased levels of literacy proficiency for years following.
**About the role**
As a Ready Reader Volunteer you will work with primary school students, who need your support the most, through one-on-one sessions where you will guide and help them to build their literacy skills.
Under the supervision and direction of the classroom teacher, you will undertake a routine of reading with three students for approximately one hour at the same school each week.
This is a volunteer role.
**Role requirements**
- A passion for helping students thrive
- Available for approximately 1 hour per week during school hours to attend a local school
- Teamwork and the ability to collaborate with others
- Professionalism
- Excellent communication skills
You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child. So go for it, put your name forward
**Time Commitments**: Approximately 1 hour a week over a school year. This is a volunteer position.
