**Position description**

The Finance team is responsible for managing all strategic and operational financial activities and functions for AIFS. The team supports the Institute’s leaders to develop budgets and forecasts, and to report against the strategic goals that determine the Institute’s future directions. As such, the Finance team embodies our organisational values and behaviours.

The position is responsible for providing advice and support on revenue recognition, contract management and reporting, supporting the procurement and general function. The position is part of the Finance team and ensures the Institute complies with the requirements of the _Public Governance Performance and Accountability Act, Accountable Authority Instructions and Commonwealth Procurement Rules._

The successful person will have a:

- Demonstrated record of achievement providing accounting, contracts and procurement services in a centralised finance function.
- Demonstrated ability to work flexibly at peak times (end of month close periods and year end) to support the achievement of team deliverables, including assisting with various associated finance tasks such as raising invoices and posting accruals/adjustments.
- Demonstrated ability to:

- reconcile balance sheet accounts and resolve related exceptions
- follow revenue recognition practices
- produce accurate and timely reports including designing and producing bespoke reports as requested by stakeholders
- use non-finance systems and related data to carry out reconciliations and investigations.
- Qualifications (or equivalent relevant experience) in a recognised accounting discipline and membership (or progress towards membership) of a professional accounting body e.g. CPA Australia.

**Position duties**

Under the direction of the Chief Finance Officer, the Finance Officer is required to:

- Provide technical advice on procurements and contracts for AIFS.
- Support contract management including adherence to revenue recognition principles and processes.
- Support the financial accountant with revenue recognition and reconciliations.
- Manage and maintain the in-house Contract Register database including arranging settlement requests, reconciling contract milestones and recognised revenue, and responding to associated queries.
- Prepare accurate and regular revenue and contract milestone reports and forward contract revenue reports.
- Carry out allocated month end tasks, balance sheet reconciliations for allocated accounts, primarily associated with revenue reconciliations and cash / appropriation available and CBMS.
- Assist AIFS to implement or purchase within Whole of Australian Government contract arrangements.
- Monitor incoming tasks and liaise with the CFO and other team members to prioritise and plan work to ensure team and AIFS objectives are met.
- Provide coverage and support to the broader finance team as required.
- Assist with the preparation of responses to external tenders, requests for proposals and quotes.
- Liaise with external legal advisors and other key external stakeholders as appropriate.

**Terms**

The Finance Officer position will be offered on a **non-ongoing** basis of 12 - 15 months with the possibility of an extension. This position is offered on a full-time or part-time basis (minimum FTE 0.8).
