**The role**:
The Team Leader - Water Quality Compliance is responsible for overseeing the effective management of the Backflow Program, Meter installation compliance and the Hydrotrak water carter permit system. These systems are integral to ensuring the protection and quality of our water supply. This is an exciting opportunity for those looking for their next challenge
Key accountabilities of the role include, but are not limited to the following;
- Managing performance, development and wellbeing of a team of staff
- Managing and maintaining South East Water’s Backflow Management Program
- Managing the backflow device database and resolving customer issues related to the provision of backflow prevention, metering and fire services identified as having inadequate backflow prevention, illegal cross connections and/or non-compliant metering.
- Attending regular meetings with other water authorities, to ensure consistency across all water authorities with both backflow and hydrant usage.
- Managing and operating the Hydrotrak and Electronic Metered Standpipe (EMS) billing systems.
- Overseeing audits of customers, resolving non-compliant installations, identifying trends and implementing improvements.

In order to hit the ground running in this exciting leadership role, applicants will be strong and effective communicators with an ability to influence customers to comply with their requirements. Demonstrated leadership skills, sound negotiation and high level problem solving skills will ensure that complex issues are resolved in a professional manner, with a customer first mindset.
With an excellent ability to build and maintain strong relationships, the following knowledge and experience will also guarantee success in this role:
- Knowledge of the requirements of the relevant Acts and Regulations i.e: Water Act, Water (Estimation, Supply and Sewerage) Regulations and SEW’s Backflow Policy
- Knowledge of hydraulic principles relating to Backflow Prevention.
- Qualifications in backflow device testing, or preparedness to undertake such training.
- Knowledge of the AS/NZS3500.1 Plumbing Standards and AS/NZS2845 Backflow Prevention Device standards.
- Knowledge of the water supply system
- Sound analytical and computer skills, including word processing, spread sheets and databases.
