**About the role**
As a Youth Development Officer, you will play a key role in developing and delivering diverse and engaging initiatives for young people that support action items within Council’s Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan, Community Safety Plan and Reconciliation Action Plan.

You will also conduct outcome focused individual support to young people aged 10-25, under a short to medium support period, with a focus on referral and building sustainable community connections.

**Day to day duties include**:

- Contributing to the daily operations at the Bentleigh Library and Youth Hub.
- Identifying if a young person is in crisis or needs intervention.
- Providing one on one support and referral pathways.
- Liaising with relevant internal and external stakeholders to plan and deliver youth programming in a school or community context.
- Respond to community needs by providing information, support, advocacy and referral to young people, parents, and schools.
- Consult on the development of engagement strategies across council to ensure optimum engagement for young people.
- Assist in the development of social media content to promote youth programs and opportunities.
- Networking and maintain relationships with community organisations.

This position requires you to work onsite 9.45am-6.00pm Monday to Thursday and 9:30-5:00pm on Friday, and on odd occasions after hours and weekend.

**To succeed in this role, you will have**:

- Expertise in delivering individualised one on one support with a goal focused, strength-based approach.
- Strong professional boundaries working with people accessing Youth Services.
- Knowledge of the needs and interests of a diverse range of young people and the ability to respond accordingly.
- A strong understanding and facilitation of youth participation, co-design and engagement tools and approaches applicable to young people.
- A team focused, positive, curious, and flexible attitude.
- The ability to work under mínimal supervision, managing time, setting priorities, planning, and organising workloads effectively.

**Skills and experience**
- Tertiary qualification in Youth Work or related field.
- Experience in Youth Services or related field.
- Expertise in the provision of one-on-one support to young people and their families.
- Ability to engage and interact with young people and a broad range of community members.
- Current Victorian drivers Licence and access to a vehicle.
- Current Employee Working with Children Check.
