**How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne**

The Manager, City Communications forms a critical part of the City Communications team to actively partner with the organisation on the delivery of significant programs of work that support Council priorities and strategy. The Manager role partners with a nominated division and linked Council portfolio areas to provide a high level of integrated communications expertise that supports and drives the strategic agenda. Akin to the “front door” of the Strategic Communications branch, the City Communications team convenes cross-functional teams from Media, Internal and Digital teams to drive the delivery of communication activities aligned to agreed priorities

Leading a dynamic team of business partners for that division, the Manager, City Communications, drives and manages the planning, execution and measurement of impactful, multi-media content, campaigns and timely information for a diverse group of audiences.

The Manager,City Communications ensures that all communications are represented in CoM-wide communication planning and frameworks, and works closely with the teams responsible for internal and external communication, to ensure timely delivery, alignment and impact.

- Demonstrated ability to develop, manage and maintain business plans and associated budgetary and financial management requirements
- Proven experience effectively managing issues within a highly political and complex environment
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Journalism, Law, Public Relations, Media or Communications and extensive relevant experience.
- Effective written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to produce content quickly and to a high standard.
- Demonstrated and well developed leadership skills or experience in or demonstrated capacity to lead an integrated communications team, including the disciplines of media, communications, and digital media.
- Research and evaluation skills, including the ability to measure the effectiveness of CoM’s strategic communications activities.
- Political acumen and judgement, including in a complex environment with competing priorities.
- Extensive demonstrated experience in strategic communication and leadership across any level/s of government or the corporate sector.
- An understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the City of Melbourne currently, and ideas on strategic communications approaches to these.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, including the ability to lead a team with changing priorities.
