**How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne**

Combing strategic foresight, analysis and deep engagement, the purpose of the Strategy, Planning and Climate Change Division is to partner with our Traditional Owners, community and stakeholders to enable the city and organisation of the future to be imagined and realised.

The Division works collaboratively to shape and deliver a vision for Melbourne as a global city - to guide the next generation of Melbourne’s growth to achieve a bold, inspirational and sustainable city.

As the Head of Zero Carbon City, you will be responsible for leading the ambitious transition to a zero carbon city with a focus on major projects and programs in renewable energy, zero carbon buildings and zero carbon operations. As custodian of the Climate Change Mitigation Strategy and associated action plans, including Council’s Response to the Climate and Biodiversity Emergency, you will lead two functions:

- Energy and Carbon Innovation: strategy and policy development; and the delivery of innovative and scalable projects that disrupt the energy system in support of achieving 100% renewable energy by 2030, including the delivery of Power Melbourne;
- Zero Carbon Buildings and Operations: strategy and policy development and the delivery of innovative and scalable projects that drive the retrofit of 77 buildings per year in the municipality, including a focus on CoM buildings and operations.

We elevate the city’s ability to tackle ongoing and future challenges, including climate change, by driving integrated solutions, informing and imparting knowledge from worldwide city networks.

**What you will bring**
- Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values - accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence
- Appropriate tertiary qualification in environment, sustainability, commerce, law, public policy or other related discipline
- Extensive experience and thought leadership in energy, environment, climate policy and strategy development and delivery
- Proven capability in building and leading high performing teams including mentoring, coaching, and collaborating
- Proven experience in being a trusted adviser on strategic and technical to senior internal and external stakeholders
- Extensive experience in developing and delivering complex and technical programs and projects in the energy, property or related industries
- High level written skills (including report writing skills) and strong oral communication including presentation and negotiation skills and the ability to communicate with a broad range of stakeholders
- Proven ability to build and maintain productive networks and partnerships and to navigate effectively through political complexities with multiple stakeholders
- High level political and strategic nous and ability to navigate initiatives through complex stakeholder environments.
