- The position is full-time fixed term position **commencing March 2024 for a period of 12 months with a possibility of extension.**

About the Role

The Research Assistant will work closely with the MEMOIR Trial Manager and will be involved in day-to-day trial operations. The Research Assistant will be the primary contact for trial participants, will conduct participant screening for trial eligibility, and should be available for contact during possible out of hours phone calls. The role requires close liaison with internal trial members (Trial Manager, medical team, trial clinicians) and external contractors (drug and device manufacturers, warehouses and courier companies).

The Research Assistant will oversee participant data entry into the online database system, REDCap, and will conduct regular checks for the Trial Manager. The Research Assistant will ensure trial protocol and safety compliance are being adhered to, data quality and study conduct are in line with ethical standards, and Good Clinical Practice guidelines are being adhered to.

The Research Assistant will assist the Trial Manager with recruitment strategies and ensure recruitment deadlines are being met. The Research Assistant will undertake other tasks necessary for the successful completion of the trial.

Reports to: Professor James McAuley, the Director of the Centre for Pain IMPACT at NeuRA. The Centre’s research combines experimental, clinical and translational methods to develop and test new interventions for chronic pain.

Prof McAuley is seeking a full-time Research Assistant to work on MEMOIR, a Commonwealth Government funded clinical trial for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). CRPS is a rare and disabling pain disorder that affects approximately 5,000 Australians annually. There are currently no effective treatments for CRPS.

Research Theme: Pain

Experience, skill and qualification requirements:

- Degree in related discipline, health background desirable (e.g. physiotherapy, nursing, medicine)
- Research assistance experience in clinical trials desirable, but not essential
- Computer skills including word processing and database management, REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) experience desirable
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills and ability to handle sensitive information
- Ability to set priorities, monitor workflows and develop best practice work standards
- Excellent organisational skills
- Ability to work effectively and flexibly in a team environment.
