**About Melbourne Bioinformatics**

Melbourne Bioinformatics is also host to the Australian BioCommons, a $20M NCRIS-funded research infrastructure program for life science research (2020-2023).

**About the Role**
This role will plan, develop, coordinate, and deliver a range of communications outputs and activities to support Australian BioCommons’ mission to improve bioinformatics and bioscience data infrastructures at a national scale. The role will enable communications, outreach and training activities to promote and foster the uptake of Australian BioCommons services by researchers to ultimately enhance Australia’s digital life science research.

The Science Communication Officer will support the Associate Director Training and Communications to realise the Australian BioCommons Communication and Training Plans.

This role will be required to develop a deep understanding of stakeholders and audiences, and to proactively identify content creation opportunities for these audiences.

Responsibilities include:

- Produce engaging communications materials suitable for a range of strategic uses including external stakeholder engagement, event management and internal communications
- Provide administrative, communication and organisational support for Australian BioCommons training and outreach events
- Write high-quality content for multiple channels, including online, monthly newsletters and social media
- Coordinate BioCommons’ presence and promote the uptake of services at key national and international conferences by facilitating sponsorship and supporting team members’ presentations and in person participation

**About You**

You will also have:

- A degree with relevant experience, or experience and specialist expertise in science, communication, or science communication, or an equivalent combination of the above
- Expertise in the production of targeted, engaging communications for print, digital and social channels.
- Demonstrable proficiency in the tools required to deliver best practice in science communication
- Proven ability to build, establish and maintain relationships and manage multiple stakeholders
- Strong track record in executing projects
- To ensure the University continues to provide a safe environment for everyone, this position requires the incumbent to hold a current and valid Working with Children Check._
