**About the position**

The Bunjilwarra** **Youth Mentor project aims to empower Aboriginal youth before, during and after their residential stay at the Bunjilwarra youth healing service. The objectives of the Bunjilwarra Youth Mentoring project are to increase self-advocacy, to increase participation in education, employment, sport, arts and political processes and to increase connection to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, families and communities. These objectives will be achieved through self-advocacy (self-determination) training, individual participation plans actioned with brokerage and mentor support, cultural strengthening programs and an annual Bunjilwarra Youth voice forum.

The Bunjilwarra Youth Mentor project coordinator will deliver this project as described above. Consultation and co-design with project stakeholders will be a critical element to the success of this project. As per the Marram Nganyin funding guidelines
- Technical skills training and skill development, such as accredited courses in first aid, mental health first aid, hospitality, media and creative arts
- Cultural activities such as yarns with Elders and making cultural items, including weaving, possum cloak skins, tools and instruments
- Social and wellbeing activities such as cooking, nutrition and fitness, yoga, meditation classes, music and dance events, sport and recreation
- Activity-related travel and accommodation (within Victoria) for cultural camps, excursions to places of cultural significance, tertiary education provider open days and sporting events facilitator costs
- Costs for phones and iPads to lend to mentees so they can stay connected to the program

**To be successful in this role you will need**:

- Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal history and culture, and community as well as an ability to work effectively in a culturally safe manner.
- Ability to provide support to a multi-disciplinary team to ensure quality service provision (within a residential treatment setting) for young people experiencing health and wellbeing issues associated with problematic alcohol and drug taking.
- Demonstrated experience with relevant legislation such as OHS, Privacy, Statutory requirements and organisational policies.
- Demonstrated project coordination experience and/or skills
- Ability to maintain positive stakeholder relationships and work collaboratively with all stakeholders i.e. young people, families and carers, government agencies, Aboriginal community services, service contractors, etc.
- Demonstrate high level of interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), problem solving and negotiation skills especially with Aboriginal youth and their families
