The Clinical Excellence Commission (CEC) is committed to providing leadership in safety and quality to improve health care for patients in NSW. The primary focus of the CEC is to promote and support improved clinical care, safety and quality across the NSW public health system, and to meet functions specified by the Minister for Health. The CEC Strategic Plan places priority on delivering high performing reliable systems and ensuring safety and quality in the provision of healthcare for ‘every patient, every time’ is consistent across NSW Health.

**What you'll be doing**

The Associate Director Medical Patient Safety will work with Director Medical Patient Safety, to lead the Medical Patient Safety Directorate incorporating the Analytics and Reporting Team as well as Special Committees. The Associate Director along with the Director Medical Patient Safety will play an important role supporting and enabling the work of the Patient Safety Directorate under the leadership of the Director, Patient Safety. The Director and Associate Director Medical Patient Safety will work in partnership with the Patient Safety Directorate to prioritise patient safety matters and provide input into issues to ensure the CEC assists the Ministry of Health to meet its statutory responsibilities relating to clinical incident management and review.

We are seeking an experienced Staff Specialist who can:

- Work collaboratively with the Director Medical Patient Safety regarding the risk assessment and management of significant clinical incidents, including providing high level strategic support to the NSW Clinical Risk Action Group (CRAG).
- Ability to develop and maintain strong partnerships with eHealth and other medical leaders within NSW Health on patient safety issues and significant clinical risks.
- Providing accurate and timely advice on significant patient safety issues or external reviews of matters involving patient safety.

**Remuneration**: $241,940.00 per annum (pro rata) plus superannuation
**Hours Per Week**: 16 (0.4FTE)

**Selection Criteria**
- Registered medical practitioner qualified or registrable as a Senior Specialist under the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
- Outstanding leadership and change management skills with demonstrated experience in successful patient safety outcomes within a large and complex service environment.
- Demonstrated engagement skills with medical leaders, and other health professionals, to address clinical governance issues at senior hospital, LHD or state-wide level.
- Evidence of advanced understanding in quality improvement science and measurement with a track record in successfully leading organisational change.
- High level of understanding of public health policy issues involving evidence-based practice, clinical governance, health service evaluation, health care funding and resource allocation; extensive knowledge of clinical systems and health services, including an understanding of human and other factors impacting on quality and safety.
- High-level analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to develop creative, lateral, yet practical solutions.
- High-level interpersonal, communication, negotiation, influencing and motivational skills that demonstrate a capacity to build and maintain effective, collaborative relationships with senior executives, clinicians, and academics in a broad range of stakeholder organisations and in a multi-disciplinary way.
- Shows personal resilience, integrity, honesty, openness, modelling a person-centred approach and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people from staff to patients and the public.
