**Overview**

The Women's and Children's Hospital provides state of the art health care for women and children in Adelaide and South Australia.

We are the state’s leading provider of specialist care for children with acute and chronic conditions and SA’s largest maternity and obstetric service. We also provide important community-based services.

Each year, more than 30,000 people are admitted and about 5000 babies are born at the hospital. In addition more than 250,000 people come to the hospital as outpatients.

The hospital has 295 beds. The hospital’s paediatric and adolescent wards cater for all paediatric specialties. Women’s wards provide antenatal, gynaecology, neonatal and postnatal care.

The Paediatric Emergency Department is a level 1 major trauma centre for children in South Australia. Level 1 trauma centres provide a 24-hour full spectrum of care for the most critically injured patients.

**About the Role**

The Nursing Services Director - Paediatric Emergency Department works in partnership with the Medical Unit Head - Paediatric Emergency Department; and accepts accountability for the governance and practice standards of nurses; the development and effectiveness of systems to support, to evaluate and consistently improve and nursing practice and healthy work environments, safety and quality and the cost effective provision of health services within the span of appointment. The NSD will work collaboratively with the MUH PED to implement strategies to enhance patient and family experiences, consumer engagement and effective patient flow within the PED.

The Nursing Services Director provides corporate management, professional nursing advice and senior leadership and management commensurate with a Director level position.

The Nursing Services Director Paediatric Emergency Department (NSD - PED) uses their clinical knowledge and experience to provide strategic and operational leadership, governance and direction for nursing services for the PED. This role balances and integrates strategic and operational perspectives across the Department, also contributing at Divisional level. This role will report to a Level 5.3.
