**About the role**

National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for a Principal Project Officer, Native Title and Aboriginal Partnerships to work as part of the team and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal cultural heritage.

This role will provide coordination and strategic direction on the implementation of formal and informal Aboriginal joint management arrangements across the North Coast Branch (NCB). It also ensures that the branch meets legislative requirements regarding Aboriginal cultural heritage management and provides advice for best practice processes across the branch in the preservation of Aboriginal cultural heritage. The role may be responsible for representing the branch in Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA) negotiations with native title claim groups and/or Registered Native Title Body Corporates. The role provides support across the branch in the high workload involved in the engagement and consultation with Aboriginal partner groups and stakeholder organisations, which includes support for the implementation of and compliance with, ILUA commitments.

Additionally, this role will also manage the development delivery of complex projects relevant to Aboriginal joint management including planning, scoping, resourcing, stakeholder consultation and key milestone reporting within a defined program of work ensuring timeframes and quality standards are met in support of the achievement of NSW Government and corporate outcomes.

**About you**

To be successful, you have experience in providing strategic advice and support with the development, implementation, management and reporting of large complex projects that relate to Aboriginal cultural heritage or joint management, whilst ensuring senior management are fully briefed on compliance and risks. You will have extensive experience working with Aboriginal communities and a proven track record in forming strong partnerships that have enabled you to deliver significant outcomes for Aboriginal people on the ground.

You will have detailed knowledge of the _Native Title Act 1993_ and be able to provide expert technical advice across the branch regarding native title and ILUA implementation to ensure consistency in the development of policies, procedures and agreements that relate to joint management and native title. You will possess high level communication and risk management skills in order to seek advice and implement specialist advice as required and to support specialist staff in NPWS regarding native title and/or joint management negotiations You will have experience working with external agency project teams and working parties where you have developed and delivered diverse projects and programs that supported the implementation of Government policy initiatives.

**Key knowledge and experience**
- Proven knowledge of legislative, policy and cultural context relating to native title, Aboriginal cultural heritage conservation and Aboriginal joint management of parks.
- Extensive experience in fostering and maintaining effective working relationships with Aboriginal community groups, facilitating knowledge exchange and promoting engagement between agencies.

**Essential requirements**
- Appropriate tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent, relevant professional experience.
- Demonstrated project management skills and experience along with strong organisational skills to plan, manage and deliver multiple projects on time and within resources
- Thorough understanding and knowledge of financial, governance and risk management standards and practices associated with project management
