**About the Department**:
The Department of Industry, Science and Resources and our broader portfolio are integral to the Australian Government’s economic agenda. Our purpose is to help the government build a better future for all Australians through enabling a productive, resilient and sustainable economy, enriched by science and technology. We do this by:

- Growing innovative & competitive businesses, industries and regions
- Investing in science and technology
- Strengthening the resources sector.

The APS and the department offer a clear direction and meaningful work. You will be able to create positive impact in people’s lives whilst contributing to improved outcomes for Australia and our people.

If you would like to feel a strong connection to your work and you are accountable, committed and open to change, join us in shaping Australia’s future.

Please see the APSC’s APS Employee Value Proposition for more information on the benefits and value of employment within the APS.

**About the team**:
The Departments Shared Services Hub is at the forefront of service delivery under the Whole-of-Government Shared Services Programme. The Shared Services Hub is committed to delivering effective and efficient payroll services in line with Service Level Agreements negotiated with each client agency.

Working in the Hub presents a unique opportunity to be involved in innovative service delivery arrangements relating to both systems and processes - and to collaborate across teams and across the Public Sector. The Hub utilises the Aurion HRMS. Effective client engagement is an essential component of our service delivery, including, on occasion, in respect to the onboarding of new clients.

**What’s in it for you?**:
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team delivering payroll to a range of client agencies with over 14,000 payslips processed fortnightly.

The team adopts a collaborative and energetic approach to service delivery and places a strong emphasis on meeting and exceeding service levels.

At the APS 4 level you will be assigned tasks in a client team and given ample opportunity to demonstrate your capacity to develop and progress your career in the payroll and service delivery space.
- Experience in undertaking pay transactions on an automated pay management system
- Able to work in a team environment and the ability to guide and develop team members
- Ability to interpret employment legislation and provide accurate advice on employee entitlements
- Well-developed written skills, communication and interpersonal skills
- Good customer service skills, including initiative and the ability to foster effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels
- Able to manage information that is sensitive in nature and to observe all privacy provisions
- Sound organisational skills, including energy and drive to achieve results
- Resilient with a positive attitude and responsive to changing and competing priorities
- Values inclusion and diversity and demonstrates respect for APS Values.

**What you will do**:
As a Payroll Officer, you will be required to undertake tasks of moderate complexity and work under general direction. You are accountable for organising your work and making decisions within defined parameters relating to the area of your responsibility.

At this level you may exercise some discretion with respect to how legislation, procedures and guidelines are interpreted and applied. You will provide guidance, advice and support on pay related matters. You may demonstrate leadership within a team and be responsible for coaching and training less experienced team members.

You will be comfortable working in a dynamic environment where judgement and attention to detail is required. You will observe APS values and have a keen sense of observing all privacy considerations in the delivery of payroll services.

In this role you will:

- Process a range of tasks related to the delivery of payroll and conditions of service including commencements, salary variations, calculation of allowances and final entitlements for cessations
- Provide clear, comprehensive and accurate verbal and/or written advice to stakeholders
- Maintain payroll data and accurate records to a high standard
- Complete payroll transactions and related correspondence in accordance with the fortnightly payroll cycle
- Display teamwork and support other payroll officers
- Participate and contribute to the continuous improvement of the payroll team processes and practices

**Eligibility**:
**Notes**:
Highly regarded experience:

- Experience in undertaking pay transactions on an automated pay management system, such as Aurion
- Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft office products - particularly Microsoft Outlook and Excel

A merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies within 18 months from the date the vacancy was first advertised in the Gazette.
