About the team The Departments Shared Services Hub provides payroll services under the Whole-of-Government Shared Services Programme.

The Shared Services Hub is committed to delivering effective and efficient payroll services in line with Service Level Agreements negotiated with each client agency.

The opportunity Working in the Hub presents a unique opportunity to be involved in innovative service delivery arrangements relating to both systems and processes - and to collaborate across the Public Sector.

In the delivery of payroll services the Hub utilises the Aurion HRMS.

Effective client engagement is an essential component of our service delivery, including, on occasion, in respect to the onboarding of new clients.

What you will do As a Payroll Team Leader, you will work with and report to your Assistant Manager and will be required to undertake work that is quite complex in nature, work under limited direction, accept accountability and enjoy reasonable autonomy.

You will be responsible for leading a payroll team in the delivery of timely and effective payroll services.

You may undertake a variety of systems administration, assurance and reporting functions to ensure the delivery of high-quality payroll services is sustained throughout each fortnightly pay cycle and across the financial year.

You will be responsible for assisting in identifying, developing, implementing and reviewing business processes that underpin the operational efficiency of the team.

In addition, you will use your analytical and conceptual skills to identify improvements and troubleshoot problem issues that may arise.

As a Team Leader, in close consultation with your Assistant Manager, you will: Lead and manage a payroll team ensuring deadlines and statutory obligations are met including the processing of fortnightly pays and the completion of end of financial year activities.

Perform and quality assure payroll processes at the end of each pay cycle to ensure employees are paid correctly, records are maintained and the reconciliation of fortnightly pays is completed Coach and manage team members to develop their skills and oversee their workload including:providing clarity around roles, expectations and responsibilitiesusing on-the-job opportunities and formal training to help transfer knowledge and develop capabilityprovide continuous feedback Work with team members, the Aurion Team and IT to ensure the system is maintained to meet business requirements Provide high level client service on more complex issues related to payroll transactions and conditions Contribute to and participate in Branch and team initiatives and programs, including activities which promote teamwork and service delivery with other teams and across the Hub.

Eligibility To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.

Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

Notes Education and Experience Requirements Experience in managing payroll teams to deliver payroll services Strong skills in payroll systems, Service Now or other helpdesk systems and Microsoft office products Experience in undertaking pay transactions on an automated pay management system, preferably Aurion or an equivalent system An understanding of the APS practices and values A merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies within 18 months from the date the vacancy was first advertised in the Gazette.

The department does currently offer flexible work opportunities for many roles.
This vacancy is Canberra based, although flexible or remote work arrangements may be considered.
