**The Role**

The Chief Data Officer leads the Data branch of APRA and is responsible for working with key stakeholders to establish and implement APRA’s data and information strategy.

This will ensure APRA has the appropriate data frameworks, people, processes and systems for collection, management, storage, protection, sharing and reporting of data, to be used by APRA for analysis and insights to support their core functions; and enable APRA to deliver on its secondary mandate as the data collection agency for the financial sector.

The role is a member of the APRA Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and the Technology and Data Executive Leadership team reporting to the Executive Director Technology and Data. The Technology and Data Division supports APRA with frameworks, technology and systems that support APRA technology operations and its mandate to help protect the Australian community through data enabled decision making.

**Key accountabilities and outcomes**
- **People.** Lead a team of professionals to deliver high quality outcomes. Foster an inclusive environment that creates a sense of belonging and trust and allows people to actively contribute and reach their full potential.
- **Strategy.** Set the strategic direction and business plan of the Data branch, consistent with the Technology and Data plan and APRA Corporate Plan.
- **Governance.** Develop data procedures and policies, and work closely with various departments to collect, prepare, organize, protect, and analyse data assets while ensuring that APRA meets the required governance and privacy standards.
- **Operations. **Ensure data and reporting is delivered to internal and external stakeholders timeously and to agreed standards of quality, usability, availability, and efficiency.
- **Transformation. **Support APRA’s data transformation program through the delivery of new and improved data collections, and an appropriate uplift in data storage and analytics assets, including a data driven culture where people understand the value of data.
- **Relationship Management. **Work with key internal stakeholders to understand data requirements; raise awareness around available data; and promote a data-driven organisation.
- **Capability.** Ensure the Data branch maintains the requisite contemporary skills to undertake the collection, management, sharing and reporting of data, recognising this need evolves over time.
- **Financial management & resourcing.** Manage the operation of the branch within agreed budgetary constraints and devise resourcing strategies to address evolving needs. Ensure appropriate workforce management to create alignment across the enterprise and minimise duplication.
- **External relations.** Develop close networks, both locally and internationally and represent APRA at local and international forums.

- Adept at leading in the face of uncertainty and facilitates understanding of complex circumstances to gain support and agreement.
- Relationship building, negotiation and influencing capability at a senior level.
- Demonstrated ability to identify strategic issues and develop and implement appropriate solutions.
- Strong personal integrity and an intuitive understanding of what is reasonable and prudent business practice.
- Sound understanding of the principles of prudential regulation and financial sector risks as they relate to data would be beneficial, but not essential.
- Professional qualifications in relevant field or equivalent experience.
