Canberra, Australia Australian Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development Full time

**Contact Officer**:
**Closing Date**:
**11.59pm AEST, Friday 14 June 2024**

**Our Department Values**

Our values set the direction for what it means to work in our department. They inform the standard and expectations of behaviours, skills and capabilities and the attributes we currently have, will continually work to achieve and develop, and that we use to acknowledge and attract, retain and recruit into our department.

**The opportunity we have available**

The Road and Vehicle Safety Division aims to improve road safety and reduce road trauma for all Australians. RVS has four main functions: setting the policy direction for road safety through the National Road Safety Strategy 2021-30 and National Road Safety Action Plan 2023-25; delivering targeted infrastructure and non-infrastructure road safety programs; developing and maintaining legislation including the Road Vehicle Standards Act 2018 (RVSA) and other legislative instruments and vehicle standards; and regulating the first provision of vehicles in the Australian market including vehicle certification, imports, enforcement and vehicle recalls. RVS also leads engagements and communications with a wide range of stakeholders including state governments.

The department is seeking to fill multiple program officer roles within the Office of Road Safety.

The Office of Road Safety is responsible for implementing the Australian Government’s responsibilities outlined in the National Road Safety Strategy and National Road Safety Action Plan, designing and delivering non-infrastructure road safety grants and programs, road safety policy and analytics, and engagement with a broad range of government and non-government stakeholders, including through inter-departmental committees and intergovernmental forums.

This opportunity is available at a critical point in the evolution of the Office of Road Safety. We are focused on implementing and administering the new National Road Safety Action Grants and Car Safety Ratings programs as well as closing off a number of grant programs. We are also at an exciting point where we can evaluate past programs and draw on lessons learned to more efficiently and effectively deliver future grants programs.

**What will you do?**

As a Grant Program Officer, you will be well organised and demonstrate the ability to contribute to results in an environment characterised by tight timeframes and changing circumstances and priorities. You also have good written, verbal and numeric skills, and the ability to develop and maintain external relationships and respond to stakeholders. Your role will require you to undertake the following tasks:

- supporting the delivery of non-infrastructure road safety grants to which Commonwealth funding has been committed, including by:

- assessing project proposals
- drafting approvals, agreements/contracts and projects variations
- participating in project governance
- contributing to communications products
- supporting ongoing management of financial allocations for each project under the various programs, including milestone payments, in conjunction with the Program, Financial Management and supporting IT systems;
- supporting the preparation of ministerial correspondence, briefs, implementation advice and media releases, with respect to projects
- building strong and constructive relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, both internal and external to the department

**Who are we looking for?**

We are looking for individuals who are motivated by the opportunity to work on cross-government and cross-portfolio issues by contributing their grant program skills, along with their exceptional stakeholder engagement abilities, to deliver projects, grants and initiatives which support all Australians.

As a Grant Program Officer you will support the effective delivery of non-infrastructure projects Australia-wide. We are seeking applicants who have a demonstrated ability in the following areas:

- assisting with the delivery of programs and grants
- stakeholder engagement skills with a positive, collaborative mindset, particularly across government and inter-governmental relations.
- Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to draft high quality documents and understand the needs of different audiences
- commitment to achieve high quality and timely results, in a fast-paced environment.
- Assisting with risk assessment and risk management activities for a project or program
- Being resilient and working flexibly in a fast paced and changing environment.
- Ability to act with integrity, judgement and professionalism.

**What else can we offer?**

**Eligibility requirements**
- **Citizenship**: To be eligible for employment with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts applicants must be an Australian citizen.
- **Health Assessment**: The preferred applicant may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by
