Brisbane, Australia Queensland Building and Construction Commission Full time

The Commission regulates the building industry throughout Queensland. To provide the best customer service possible, service centres are located throughout the State, including Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Maryborough, Rockhampton, Mackay, Townsville and Cairns. Industry stakeholders and the community are also able to engage with the QBCC online or over the phone.
Key outcomes/Accountabilities
- Lead and manage the operation of the technical team, this will include:

- monitoring, reviewing and reporting on performance to achieve the team's objectives;
- ensuring staff are provided with appropriate direction, guidance, training, and assistance;
- developing and administering the branch's business plan and budget; and
- identifying, recommending and implementing responses to significant issues.
- Maintaining effective linkages between the Regulatory Operations Division and other QBCC functional areas to assist in the planning and delivery of QBCC services.
- Establishing frameworks to ensure consistent and high-quality technical services across the State, including Regional Service Centres.
- Support the QBCC's regulatory function and provide best in-kind technical advice to internal and external stakeholders.
- Focus on and build the technical capability of the QBCC through training and development and succession planning to ensure the QBCC remains contemporary and keeps up with industry trends and standards.
- Provide the QBCC with expert advice on technical services performed by the QBCC Building Inspectors in its regulatory function and best practice methodology for delivering these services.
- Contribute to the leadership of the Regulatory Operations Division by working with Resolution Services Manager Strategic, Manager Operations and Regional Managers to ensure consistent, effective and aligned regulatory functions.
- Respond to complaints from customers in relation to both defective work and insurance claims.
- Mediate and negotiate to resolve matters.
- Cultivate sound working relationships with stakeholders including industry associations, community groups, suppliers etc. to provide greater awareness of QBCC and its aims, foster a co-operative or partnership approach to achieving QBCC's aims and keep informed of relevant developments.
- Assist communities in dispute over the technical standard of building work based on expert technical determination.
- Develop and monitor processes for involvement in dispute resolution during construction.
- Represent the QBCC on industry and government technical committees.
- Have high level investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Build and maintain networks and relationships to represent and promote QBCC to external stakeholders.
- Develop strategies for dealing with change to deliver quality customer service and achieve outcomes of the QBCC.

Highly desirable requirements
- Hold qualifications to be eligible or currently hold a Building Licence from QBCC
- Hold or be eligible to hold a Diploma of Investigations (Government)
- Hold or be able to complete the Cert IV in Training and Assessment
