The Salvation Army Youth Services offer an integrated suite of programs engaging with young people across Australia. Our services create intentional avenues for young people to explore opportunities, build support networks, and access, participate and contribute to their communities. Youth services provide a diverse range of programs which include housing and homelessness, driver training, education, employment, and training, AOD support, social and community activities, specialist therapeutic responses and youth justice programs.

About the role

We are seeking a values-driven Youth Support Worker who will assist in the facilitation of the efficient operations of the Crisis Accommodation program, creating a client centered therapeutic environment for the young people using this service.

You will successfully
- Assist in the creation & daily running of a therapeutic environment within the Crisis Accommodation Service which promotes the physical, emotional, spiritual & social development of young people.
- Through appropriate activities & strategies identify, build rapport & engage with young people in order to respond to their immediate needs & offer appropriate support within a client focussed, Trauma Informed Care framework & empower them to achieve their hopes & goals.
- Activities include relationship development, assessment & referral, development of community support & the development of care plans, all in consultation with management & staff.
- Conduct life skills/training programs and assist in ensuring the programs continue to be relevant to the needs of the participants and in ensuring access for participants to relevant services, support options both within TSA Network and external agencies and advocate as appropriate.

This is a full-time, permanent position located in Surry Hills, NSW. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Crisis Level 1 award.

You will have
- Tertiary qualifications in youth work, welfare or related areas.
- Knowledge and understanding of youth homelessness, health and welfare issues, and appropriate intervention.
- An appreciation of and the ability and willingness to promote and support the values and ethos of The Salvation Army.
- Previous social and community service work experience in the youth service sector.
- Current Senior First Aid Certificate.
- Demonstrated experience in engaging young people of varying cultures, races, economic, social and educational status
- Drivers Licence
- Working With Children Check
