The Principal Policy Officer - First Nations Women is a role within the Office for Women (OFW) in the Community and Family Services and is accountable to the Director, Office for Women for:

- leading and contributing to the provision of effective and balanced policy advice to government on the interests and concerns of women across South Australia
- providing high-quality specific advice and recommendations in relation to issues for First Nations women in South Australia
- coordinating gatherings and participation for First Nations women and representing issues relevant to First Nations women on relevant committees, working parties and forums
- providing consultative services to a range of stakeholders based on knowledge of government policy, specific programs, and First Nations womens issues.

Key outcomes and accountabilities
1. Establish, develop and strengthen effective collaborations and a network of strategic alliances with key stakeholders including First Nations community leaders, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, and other community and government organisations.
2. Lead projects and research to design and implement forums for participation of key stakeholders including the coordination of all arrangements for the conduct of First Nations Women’s Gatherings in South Australia.
3. Initiate and develop policy advice and analysis on social and economic issues affecting the status of women, with a specific focus on issues for First Nations women.
4. Facilitate engagement and communication with clients and non-government agencies to obtain information regarding the state programs and policy initiatives, including provision of input into national policy initiatives.
5. Assist in the identification of issues requiring intervention and their solutions, as well as supporting delivery of departmental objectives.
Note: Any other responsibilities in line with the classification level of the role as assigned by Line Manager and/or the Department. The responsibilities as specified above may be altered in accordance with the changing requirements of the role.

About the Business

Community and Family Services supports vulnerable people and families to participate in social and economic life and build stronger communities. This division comprises three key areas:
**Safer Family Services (SFS) **provides a wide range of intensive family support services to children, young people and families experiencing a high risk of statutory intervention from the child protection or youth justice systems. Services also include family support, community development and parenting and youth programs.

The **Office for Women **works across government and the community towards achieving gender equity and positive change for women in South Australia by developing policy and advising on issues affecting women to improve their safety, wellbeing and economic security. The office also oversees the Women’s Information Service to support women over the phone, online and in person, as well as regional safety hubs across the state.

**Communities and Justice **works towards building community safety and wellbeing by providing support and services to children, young people and families in the youth justice system, building the capacity of communities through community development projects and working in partnership with the community services sector to respond to people with complex and exceptional needs.

**Salary Range**: $104,938 - $113,435 (ASO7)
